We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tanairy Robles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tanairy below.
Hi Tanairy, thanks for joining us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
One of the best investments I have ever done would be dropping out of college and pursuing art full-time. That being said, I knew my passions were going to take me farther if I invested in myself and my equipment. I won’t sugarcoat the truth, it was rough the first few years, I first started out as a Personal Assistant for a few photographers and directors running around Hollywood attempting to learn the new environment when I have never left my local city. Eventually, I climbed up the confidence to have my own brand and direct a few projects. Investing in myself has led me to work with so many amazing creatives and I’m very grateful, I would highly recommend investing in yourself, not only career-wise but mentally to be able to reach your highest ability.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who are unfamiliar with me or my work history here in Los Angeles – I am both a Photographer and Creative Director. My journey into this industry began as a Production Assistant on Music Video sets for Director Jordany Puello to now creating a production team with him 3 years later! Puello helped me get into the industry by allowing me to flourish beside him with my pictures. Soon after shadowing him and his talents, I succeeded in building an impressive portfolio that gained the trust of other artists seeking visionaries like myself. Ever since I started to take more risks in my career, I have worked with excellent artists such as Snoop Dogg and Akon to talented Actors like Zachary Woods. I genuinely love and enjoy seeing my work on Spotify as album/song covers as well. Being a woman trying to break barriers within the Music Video industry comes with its unique set of challenges; though progress has been made over time there remains room for further growth. Despite the few hurdles, I love what I do and I don’t have a single regret leaving college early to pursue my career in Art. Everyone’s circumstances are different, so I encourage young women like myself to stay resilient and to make the best decisions for their situation. I am mostly proud of working with Google Play this past year because it felt like a full circle and I hope that I am able to work with so many other dream companies of mine. Another project I was grateful to be a part of would be the coordination of Snoop Dogg’s Auction which took months to plan. I am extremely passionate about my production team, NostalgicFilmsLA, which is accepting of all and we stand for bringing more diversity into the industry. We want everyone to feel safe no matter who you are because your dreams matter. The one thing I would like for people to know about my brand is that I hope I inspire many of you to trust your gut feeling about the visions that came to you when you were younger, that is your calling. My main goal is to create with everyone because there is enough room for everyone to shine. Therefore moving forward, I hope every client feels comfortable enough to take a chance on their dreams with a team they can trust. I am so excited to work with all of you.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my personal opinion, I strongly believe that society should strive to be more supportive and inclusive. If you’re wondering how you can show support for your creative friends when financial resources are limited, there are still ways to help. Spreading the word about their work within your community and sharing it with others can go a long way in supporting them. It’s important to remember that there is enough space for everyone to succeed, so don’t hesitate or think you’re too cool to share their artwork! There have been instances where I had no funds at all when I first started out, but someone sharing my work made a significant difference in my journey. Your creative friends truly rely on the support they receive, often more than we realize.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
For young women entrepreneurs entering the industry or business, my top advice is to develop strong resilience and thick skin. Along your journey, you will inevitably encounter challenges, obstacles, and evil that may try to derail you from reaching your goals. However, it is crucial to stay resilient and remain mentally sharp. There have been instances where I had to assert myself because colleagues were unwilling to listen, but it is important not to allow yourself to be silenced. Remember that your ideas and creativity hold value. Unfortunately, there may be directors or CEOs who are unwilling to collaborate with you for various reasons. In such situations, it becomes necessary to maintain determination, throughout that challenge, I had to maintain my resilience due to my deep passion and belief in my work. Fortunately, I am now surrounded by a team who wholeheartedly believes in me and accepts me for who I am, just as much as I believe in and accept them. Regardless of the number of hurdles thrown at me throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, I have consistently persevered like Velcro.
