We recently connected with Tan Sanders and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Tan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

My mom put me in piano lessons when I was in the second grade. Some time I joke with her and tell her that is the reason I end up how I did. But jokes aside that was the first experience with music I had and it helped teach the foundation I still use today. Also my dad instilled in me from a young age a serious work ethic and perserverance. When I was 12 through the age of 15 every summer he would send me to work with a Farmer in Fremont, North Carolina. I would top and sucker tobacco just like my dad did when he was a kid. I am very thankful for that experience because it taught me the value of work.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a singer song writer from Goldsboro, North Carolina. My music could be described as country or folk. I do my best to take serious philosophical issues and put them in to a rural lexicon. Just as I saw the old wise men eating breakfast at the old country restaurant me and my grandad would eat at on Saturday mornings.

They seem like a way the upper class are taking advantage of working and lower class people by promising a way to increase wealth, but as time goes on they look more and more like a pump and dump scheme. Buy real art from artist you enjoy because the piece means something to you, not because it will be worth double in three years.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me it is when people come to me after a show and tell me one of my songs really resonated with them. My main goal in my songwriting is to help people deal with this existence and hopefully find the comedy in it.
