We recently connected with Tamron Little and have shared our conversation below.
Tamron, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Life often throws unforeseen challenges our way. As the saying goes, “Life be lifing”. For me, that challenge came in the form of a peritoneal mesothelioma diagnosis. This rare and aggressive cancer, usually associated with asbestos exposure, dramatically changed my life when I was just 21. In that pivotal moment, I faced not only the physical obstacles of this life-altering illness but also the emotional and mental weight of being a young mother with cancer.
However, amidst this struggle, I discovered a mission that transformed my life and instilled a profound sense of purpose. This diagnosis, while devastating, ignited a passion within me to become an advocate for others facing similar battles. I began educating myself about the disease, connecting with support groups, and sharing my story to raise awareness.
Through public speaking, writing, and community engagement, I aimed to highlight the often-overlooked issues surrounding mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos exposure.
My journey from patient to advocate has been fueled by the desire to make a difference, offering hope, support, and crucial information to those navigating similar hardships. In turning adversity into advocacy, I found a way to transform my pain into a powerful force for change, ensuring that my struggle could serve a greater good and give others hope when they feel all hope has been lost.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a powerful advocate and keynote speaker dedicated to transforming my personal experience with a peritoneal mesothelioma diagnosis into a mission to raise awareness about this rare cancer and the dangers of asbestos exposure. Diagnosed at the young age of 21, I faced significant physical, emotional, and mental challenges, especially as a young mother navigating cancer. However, rather than succumbing to despair, I strengthened my faith and embraced my journey as an opportunity to educate myself and others about mesothelioma.
Through my advocacy work, I have connected with support groups such as The Mesothelioma Center Support Group, shared my story to inspire others on various platforms, and engaged in community outreach initiatives like Survivorship Today, a partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb that highlights the often-overlooked issues surrounding black women with cancer. My efforts focus on providing hope, inspiration, and awareness to women dealing with cancer, transforming my personal pain into a force for positive change.
In addition to my advocacy, I founded WITS (Women Inspired to Thrive in Survivorship), a platform dedicated to empowering women facing similar challenges with cancer survivorship. With a passion for writing, I use my skills to create resources, articles, and personal narratives that resonate with others navigating survivorship. I’m a contributing writer for Asbestos.com, CURE magazine, and Women’s Quarterly Magazine. Through WITS, I foster a supportive community where women can share their experiences, gain strength, and find inspiration in each other’s journeys. My story exemplifies resilience and the power of turning adversity into advocacy, ensuring that my struggle serves a greater purpose in helping other women understand that they can thrive in cancer survivorship!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that vulnerability is a weakness. Initially, I thought that sharing my cancer story and all the struggles that came with it would make me appear less capable or strong. However, when I began to open up about my journey and how my faith brought me through, I found that transparency was vital and that my authenticity resonated with other women. It created a sense of connection and community that I had never anticipated.
I learned that by sharing my highs and lows during my cancer journey, I empowered myself and encouraged other women to share their testimonies. I am reminded of the Bible scripture that says something like, “We are known by the word of our testimonies.” This experience has fostered a supportive, hope-filled arena where we can uplift one another, proving that vulnerability can be a source of strength and a driver for healing and growth while thriving!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most fulfilling part of being creative is my ability to be transparent while sharing my story. Knowing that the experiences I share can positively impact others in various aspects of their lives solidifies that I am right where God wants me to be. It’s such a rewarding feeling to see the value placed on authenticity, especially on social media, and to understand that my efforts can genuinely influence their journeys.
Connecting with women from many walks of life on such a profound level fosters a sense of community, and support has been found to be crucial for those facing similar challenges. The stories of resilience, hope, and perseverance that I share provide comfort and empower other women to face their battles with renewed faith, strength, and hope.
Witnessing the ripple effect of my advocacy work—how a single story can inspire countless others to share their own experiences or seek the help they need—reminds me of the importance of every voice in this fight. Each person’s journey is unique, and by being open about mine, my prayer is to pave the way for greater understanding and compassion within our communities.
This is pure evidence that is a powerful reminder of why I began this journey. It is a privilege to stand alongside so many brave individuals, to uplift and be uplifted, and to contribute to a world where no one has to face cancer alone.
