Tamra, appreciate you joining us today. When you were first starting out, did you join a firm or start your own?
When I first started my real estate career 18 years ago, I had to make a choice between joining a traditional real estate brokerage or a small boutique brokerage. At that time, I decided to join a traditional big name real estate brokerage because I wanted the support and guidance that an established firm could provide. Looking back, I believe it was the right choice considering the circumstances and context of my career’s early stages.
Over the years, I handled hundreds of transactions but realized I didn’t have a true retirement plan in the real estate industry. That’s when I discovered the tremendous opportunity presented by eXp Realty. Joining eXp Realty has opened up a world of possibilities for me. Not only do I have the opportunity to benefit from revenue share, but I also have the chance to lead an international team without the need to obtain a broker’s license and the accompanying responsibilities.

I started my journey in the real estate industry as a real estate appraiser, which provided me with valuable insights and knowledge about property values and market trends. A couple of years later, I made the decision to become a licensed real estate agent. Transitioning from the appraisal side to the sales side was a new challenge for me, as I had never worked in a sales position before. However, I was fortunate to have incredible mentors who guided me and helped me navigate the prospecting process to find clients.
During the market crash of 2007-2008, the real estate industry faced significant challenges, particularly with the rise of short sales. I utilized my appraisal background and newly acquired sales skills to successfully assist homeowners in navigating this uncertain time and avoiding bankruptcy, although unfortunately, some still had to go through it. This experience solidified my passion for helping people and inspired me to continue in the real estate industry.
As my real estate career flourished, I felt a calling to mentor and coach other agents. I sought to expand my skill set in leadership and became a certified John Maxwell mentor and coach. This allowed me to dial up my leadership game and empower other agents to reach their full potential.
About a year ago, I started a podcast that is available on all platforms and launched a YouTube channel. Through these platforms, I aim to provide valuable insights and tips to help others in real estate achieve success by closing more deals and building the career they desire.
One of my primary goals is to help fellow realtors accelerate their careers and achieve a consistent six-figure income year after year. I believe that consistency is key in this industry, and I am dedicated to sharing the strategies, knowledge, and experience that have contributed to my own success.
What sets me apart is my unique blend of expertise as a real estate appraiser turned agent, coupled with my passion for mentoring and coaching. Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the lesson of always striving for perfection and instead embrace the power of progress. The backstory behind this shift is rooted in my upbringing and educational background, where excellence was always emphasized. However, I soon realized that this pursuit of perfection was holding me back, creating unnecessary pressure and stifling my growth.
Through introspection and experiences, I came to understand that true growth and success come from taking risks, learning from mistakes, and embracing the journey of improvement. It was a liberating realization that allowed me to let go of unrealistic expectations and embrace a mindset focused on continuous learning and development.
