We were lucky to catch up with Tamra Coleman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamra, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At Kreation Junkies, we strive to be the salt and light of the earth. We aim to bring joy and positivity into every celebration. Our mission is to curate experiences that radiate kindness and delight. We take pride in brightening someone’s day. Through personalized service and thoughtful attention to detail, we aim to craft memorable moments. We are committed to fostering meaningful connections, spreading positivity, uplifting spirits and making a lasting impact in every interaction even after the confetti settles. At the heart of our business beats a commitment to spreading happiness.
It’s truly heartwarming to witness the joy and excitement on a child’s face when they see their decorated party or when customers proudly wear our products. Those moments are a testament to the passion and dedication we put into our work at Kreation Junkies. Seeing your customers full of excitement and appreciation is the ultimate reward, affirming that you’ve fulfilled your mission of spreading happiness and making a positive impact through your creations.
Tamra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Kreation Junkies, we’re not just a black-owned, all-female business; we’re also best friends and cousins, lovingly referred to as “Bestie Cousins.” From working multiple jobs in high school to embarking on this entrepreneurial journey together, our bond of friendship and loyalty has been our guiding light.
Our love for parties began early, nurtured by the mentorship of Joan Bordenave, who instilled the seeds of entrepreneurship within us. Through her guidance, we mastered the art of party planning and design, learning the intricacies of balloon decor and the magic of creating unforgettable celebrations.
Our college years at Huntingdon College laid the groundwork for Kreation Junkies. Starting as a small boutique corner inside The Shoppes of MKA, we quickly expanded our offerings in response to customer demand, driven by our passion for fashion and dedication to excellence.
In 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, we introduced soft play as a safe and unique entertainment option for children’s parties, further diversifying our services. Today, Kreation Junkies stands as a beacon of creativity, offering boutique clothing, accessories, and gifts alongside comprehensive party planning services.
Despite encountering setbacks, such as zoning issues and the theft of our business trailer, our faith has remained steadfast. Our resilience is a testament to our commitment to spreading light and joy in the world, one celebration at a time.
At Kreation Junkies, it’s not about being number one; it’s about delivering an unparalleled experience rooted in authenticity and genuine care. For us, every interaction is an opportunity to make a positive impact and spread happiness in the lives of others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Our social media audience grew when a party for some popular YouTube twins went viral. We provided them with soft play entertainment for their kids birthday party and once they posted pictures and videos our inbox on Facebook went crazy to the point we had to stay off because trying to respond to every message and phone call became exhausting. People were contacting us from all over the world. We helped jumpstart a lot of soft play companies and also shared other companies that were located in different states.
We already had a social media presence that was good before we went viral due to Facebook’s popular marketplace. We would run ads as well. Now that social media is truly a word of mouth social place people would also share our videos and pictures throughout which also helped us gained a good following.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
After receiving our bachelor and master degrees, Kreation Junkies was something we wanted to do full time. We had no desire to work for anyone else but ourselves. Kreation Junkies is our career! Why make someone else a million dollars when we can do it for ourselves.
