We were lucky to catch up with Tammy Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tammy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Creating TGIT “Thank God It’s Today,” is my passion and mission in life. It’s a phrase based on my 19 year history of domestic abuse. I was in a 17 year marriage where I experienced all five forms of domestic abuse. The abuse led to my near death, being choked and almost losing my voice. After nearly dying, I realized how valuable each day was. I did all that I could to heal from my life experience. The journey led me to start vlogging, sharing my journey of healing, authentically.
A few years into my journey, I was “discovered” as a singer, via a karaoke video I shared. I was signed to a music label. Upon signing, I was “pitched” over 1000 songs. I found none of them relatable and it was then that I was asked if I wrote songs. I stated I had only written poetry as a young girl. This, I learned, was actually a song without music. I ventured into song writing, and started writing my story as songs.
The songs were recorded and are currently being released in order of the story format.
I began with my “anthem” of what I required for a partner, ‘God And A Job’ which went platinum in 4 months. I then released, ‘Lovin’ How The Leavin’ Feels,’ a song based on leaving my 17 year abusive marriage. The 3rd release, ‘Someone To Love Me Right,’ was my inner, reflective journey of spending time alone to heal and waiting for the right person to come into my life.
My 4th single is scheduled for release in August 2025. This is my most meaningful song, written for my Daddy, who passed in 2010. The song, ‘Man That I’d Wanna Be,’ is a tribute to the man who shaped me and made me the strong woman that I am today.

Tammy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
TGIT is not just a phrase. It’s a movement of positivity and embracing each moment you have today. It’s about being kind and loving everything and everyone you come into contact with as this may be the very last moment you have.
Through tragedy, triumph occurred.
Life is about using the obstacles you face to give you the momentum to change and grow.
My mission and goal is to share love, light and healing with the world, authentically. The gifts I have been given of speaking, writing music, singing and acting, are now my passion and how I choose to change the world.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my mission, is people. Seeing and hearing lives changed or impacted from my story, is the most beautiful thing ever.
From my pain, I show that you can overcome anything. When people contact me to tell me that my story, my quotes, my music, or even just my smile has made a difference, given them hope to live and shown them they too can survive life’s obstacles, is the greatest fulfillment.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media audience is based on authentic content. I felt that the world needed to see the good along with the bad, authentically. My audience resonated with that and has been with me for many years and growing.
The key to my social media audience is being consistent and persistent.
It’s not about “likes’ or “follows” for me. It’s about lives. Real people. I genuinely care about the people I interact with daily. I get to know them, their lives, their stories. It’s personal and I think that is what makes a huge difference in my audience base.
