Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tammy Mitchell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tammy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is a multifaceted journey, anchored in Christ as the firm foundation. It requires unwavering integrity, the courage to set ambitious goals, and the determination to take consistent action towards achieving them. It’s about relentlessly pursuing those goals, surpassing them, and then setting new ones to continue growing. Success means refusing to let circumstances become barriers, nurturing strong relationships, and persisting in the face of adversity. It involves discovering your purpose, loving others, and extending compassion to the marginalized. In essence, it’s a blend of faith, perseverance, compassion, and relentless pursuit of personal and communal betterment.
In January 2020, I ended up in the hospital with heart problems. (I had 99% blockage in my LAD aka Widow Maker and had to have a stint placed,) My employer was harassing me the whole time I was in the hospital and I knew then it was time to make a change. I looked at my fiancé, now husband, and said “we are starting our own business.” I knew I only had to make a certain amount of money to be able to keep out of Corporate America. So, I took action and put in the work that year, even being sick. I doubled my income that year! I would also like to add that I was in and out of the hospital the entire year and was later diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure.
We became successful because we used what we thought would make us successful and trusted God the whole time.
This year we are on track to have a million dollars in sales! We trusted God, put in the work and He did the rest!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a General Contractor specializing in Parking Lot Striping, Pressure Washing and Construction Cleaning. We started our because I was sick and tired of being over-worked, underpaid and talked down to. My husband was in the same boat. Enough was enough and it was time for us to take what we were taught and do things God’s way. We wanted to start building our dreams and stop building someone elses.
When we started our business we only offered parking lot striping, pressure washing and cleaning, but our relationships with our customers had them asking us to do more. We would not say no because we knew that if they trusted us to do it – they thought we were capable of making it happen. Now, we have the resources to build a house from the foundation up or provide interior/exterior work to commercial properties. We are able to provide emergency response, repairs and clean up or just an upgrade to kitchen or bathroom. Saying no is hard for us because it gives us the opportunity to grow.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I am not defined by my illnesses, but defined by who God has made me!
It took me a really long to get over the fact that I was once a drug addict and I didn’t deserve to be successful. I had no self-worth, but when I realized who I was in Christ my whole mentality changed.
Then I had the setback of getting sick, in and out of the hospital for two years. I struggled again until I heard God say “Your healing is coming!” I trusted that word! I held on to that word! I started doing what I needed to do to get healthy physically, mentally and spiritually. When I did that, I started to put in the work even more.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Integrity and making sure our customers knew they were a priority. We made ourselves available to their needs.
