Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tammy Kushnir. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tammy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking risks is part of life’s adventures. The time finally came to take my biggest risk in life when I decided to quit my full time job and create art full time. It was absolutely terrifying and exciting at the same time. When that feeling hit, I knew I had to do it. I had created art and worked with galleries and licensing agencies before but never as a full time commitment.
I have been doing this now for almost a year. Things have had their ups and downs but that is all part of the learning curve. You need to see the highs and lows of the business and constantly network and find new avenues to create. Believe in yourself and your abilities and the rest will follow.

Tammy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been creating for the art world for over 20 years but not full time till recently. I started off drawing portraits and animals. Then I started with mixed media and was seen in various craft magazines as well as the two books I had written. In time I branched out as I tried new forms of art and started licensing my digital work to various companies. Throughout the years I continued to develop my craft and constantly challenge myself to try new things and keep improving.
I decided after an inspiring trip to Alaska to really start painting. I began entering shows and gaining gallery representation. To branch out even further, I took the initiative to reach out to interior designers and home stagers. There are so many avenues to explore if you look.
I currently focus on painting abstract art and abstract landscapes for clients and galleries. I work with clients on commissions to bring forth their visions as well as create my own style for galleries across the country.
I am always looking to connect with new clients to bring their ideas to life through color , shape and textures . Always feel free to reach out.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I really wanted to work for this one company licensing my art for years. I kept trying sometimes several times a week , submitting my art for them to review. I’m sure they recognized my name and wanted me to stop sending, but I couldn’t give up. One day I sent in new work and it clicked. They loved it and I ended up working with them for years. Moral is never give up!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part is hearing stories of how my art has touched someone deeply and made a difference especially with my art that focuses on mental health awareness. For me it’s about having an impact.
