We were lucky to catch up with Tammy Hahn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tammy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In 2021, I took a leap of faith with my four daughters by my side and started The Punchy Boutique, a mobile western boutique. We initially focused on women’s clothing with a small selection of children’s items, but quickly discovered that at most events we attended, no one was offering western wear for kids. Recognizing this gap in the market, we shifted our focus to specialize in unique, high-quality children’s western clothing. Together, we’ve faced challenges, taken risks, and built something special—proving that with family, courage, and a little grit, anything is possible.
Tammy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Thank you so much for the opportunity! My name is Tammy Hahn, and I’m the owner of The Punchy Boutique, a mobile western boutique specializing in unique children’s western wear. I started this journey in 2021 with my four daughters by my side. Originally, we focused on women’s clothing, but as we traveled to various rodeos and western events, we quickly noticed there was a gap in the market—most vendors didn’t carry western-themed clothing for kids. Seeing this opportunity, we shifted our focus and began creating exclusive children’s graphic tees, denim, and more that reflect the western lifestyle we love so much.
Our boutique is unique because we’re not just a store—we bring the shopping experience directly to our customers at rodeos and events across the region, as well as online. We also pride ourselves on offering high-quality, affordable products that are fun and true to the western way of life. One of the problems we solve for our clients, especially busy western moms, is making it easy to find stylish and exclusive children’s clothing without the hassle of searching through mainstream stores that don’t often cater to this niche.
I’m particularly proud of our newest venture, our Kids Western Tee Subscription Box, which delivers limited-edition tees straight to customers’ doorsteps. It’s been a hit with moms looking for something unique that their kids can wear with pride.
What sets us apart is our deep connection to our customers and the western lifestyle. We’re family-run, and everything we do—from our designs to our customer service—is inspired by the values we cherish: family, authenticity, and the joy of living life the western way. Our goal is to offer something more than just clothing; we want our customers to feel connected to our brand and the lifestyle it represents.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Being the owner of The Punchy Boutique, I’m also a Realtor and a property manager. To fund our boutique, I used commissions from real estate sales as well as my personal paychecks from property management. This allowed me to invest steadily in the business without needing outside funding. I was able to build up the necessary capital while balancing both professions, which gave me the financial flexibility to grow the business at a sustainable pace. The support from family, friends, and customers at those early events gave us the financial foundation and confidence to keep growing, eventually expanding into children’s western wear, which became our specialty. It was definitely a step-by-step process, but it taught me a lot about resourcefulness and patience. It was a lot of work, but worth it to see The Punchy Boutique thrive!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience on social media has been a key part of the success of The Punchy Boutique. It started by focusing on authentic, relatable content that reflects our values and the western lifestyle we’re passionate about. I quickly learned that consistency is key, so I made it a point to post regularly, sharing behind-the-scenes moments, new product launches, and even personal stories about how the boutique started with my daughters. I also took the time to engage with our followers, responding to comments, asking questions, and reposting customer photos. This helped build a real community rather than just a follower count.
We focused on what our audience connected with most: fun western-themed content, mom humor, and the lifestyle around rodeos and country living. By showcasing what makes us unique—our exclusive children’s graphic tees and the mobile shopping experience we offer at events like rodeos—we’ve been able to stand out in the crowded social media space. Partnering with other western-themed accounts, participating in events, and using giveaways were also great ways to grow our visibility and reach.
For those just starting out, here are my top pieces of advice for building your social media presence: Be consistent. Show your personality, Engage with your audience, Use high-quality visuals, Collaborate and network, Be patient and persistent.
