Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tamira Perkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tamira, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
“I started my business out of my passion for healthy hair and helping my clients achieve their hair goals. While working as a hairstylist, I noticed many people struggled with hair growth, thinning, and maintaining healthy hair. During the pandemic in 2020, I decided to turn my idea into reality by creating my own hair care line.
The process started with researching ingredients and identifying the needs of my clients. I spent time testing different formulations behind the chair with real clients to see what worked best. Once I was confident in the products, I focused on branding, packaging, and creating a business plan that reflected my mission of promoting healthy hair first.
After developing the products, I launched my website, built my social media presence, and began educating my audience about healthy hair care. Word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients, consistent marketing, and staying committed to quality helped me grow the business. Every step was focused on creating products and services that I genuinely believed would help people achieve healthier hair.”

Tamira, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a natural hair stylist and braider who has spent years working directly with clients behind the chair, which gave me firsthand insight into the challenges many people face with hair growth, breakage, thinning edges, and maintaining healthy hair.
I offer professional hair services as well as a growing line of hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, growth serums, and heat protectants. My products are formulated with healthy hair as the priority and are tested through my experience as a working stylist. I understand what clients need because I work with different hair types and concerns every day.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just sell products—I actively use my knowledge and experience to educate clients and help them create healthy hair routines that work. I believe that every style should begin with healthy hair, whether it’s a silk press, protective style, or natural hair journey.
What I am most proud of is building a brand from the ground up during a challenging time and continuing to grow while staying true to my mission. Seeing my clients gain confidence, achieve their hair goals, and trust my products and services is incredibly rewarding.
The main thing I want potential clients and supporters to know is that T’s Hair Dreams is more than a hair brand—it’s a brand built on passion, education, and genuine care for healthy hair. My goal is to help every client look and feel their best while providing products and services they can trust.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media pretty organically, starting with consistency and showing real work behind the chair. When I first began posting, I wasn’t focused on going viral—I was focused on documenting what I was already doing every day as a natural hair stylist and braider. I posted finished styles, client transformations, and simple “in the moment” content so people could actually see the quality of my work and the health of the hair I was prioritizing.
Another big part of growth was staying active and present. Even when I didn’t feel like posting, I made sure to show up—short videos, before-and-after photos, and reposting client content. I also engaged with comments and DMs so it felt personal, not just promotional. Over time, that turned followers into repeat clients and word-of-mouth referrals.
For someone just starting out, my advice would be: don’t wait until everything looks perfect. Focus on showing your actual work, not just aesthetic content. And most importantly, stay in your lane—your unique style, your personality, and your approach to your craft is what will make people follow you over everyone else.
Social media growth isn’t instant, but if you stay consistent and authentic, your audience builds itself through trust over time.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Posting in different local groups on social media and client referrals. If you do great work, your current clients will tell other potential clients and send them your way.
