We were lucky to catch up with Tamira Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tamira, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
How my candle business story started , I just always love wax melts and mixing them up in my wax burner and my mom came in my room one day said hey hey we should start making candles and from there I was convinced to turn it in To a business! It’s definitely been a rocky ride through trials and errors and I’m still learning but I love my little business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How I got into modeling is a whole different story I don’t really know how I started modeling I just knew I wanted to keep doing it. And a good friend of mines Tia Tate saw my potential and took a chance after I worked with her was pretty much locked. So I make candles and I model crazy pair, what I’m most proud of through this journey is that I’m still going cause you know it’s easy to quit and I’m glad I haven’t, I’m glad I’m continuing to take chances on myself. What motivates me to keep going or to push myself to have more discipline in my business of making candles is and will always be the reactions of customers or potential customers when they smell my candles. I love that Smell is like a key to unlocking all kinds of memories. I would say the hardest thing about my job is mixing and finding scents that everyone would like and not just what I like. And with modeling I genuinely love the feeling of being behind a camera although it can be a little nervous racking that’s what makes it trilling.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I feel like a lot of businesses struggle with this but you really have to put yourself out there whether it’s on the internet(social media) or in person at pop up shops or shows they need to see the face/personality of the brand.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
In way I can really have people face to face with my product is the best way because they are able to have the product physically present to smell and touch. I’m still navigating and learning the model world but I would definitely social media is a great place to find clients as well.
