We were lucky to catch up with Tamika Marshall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In 2015, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Walking through that experience showed me how overwhelming the journey can be for patients and their families. I also saw how much the smallest acts of kindness—a meal, encouraging words, or a simple reminder that someone cares—can make a difference.
After surviving cancer, I knew I wanted to turn my experience into purpose. That’s how Lady T Hope Brigade was born.
Through care packages, emotional support, and monthly dinners for families staying at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, we work to remind people battling cancer that they are not alone.
Our mission is simple: Standing Strong So You Don’t Fight Alone.

Tamika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tamika Marshall, founder of Lady T Hope Brigade and a proud uterine cancer survivor. After being diagnosed in 2015, my experience showed me how important support, compassion, and community are during the fight against cancer. Instead of letting that chapter end with survival, I chose to turn it into purpose.
Through Lady T Hope Brigade, I work to bring hope and encouragement to individuals and families battling cancer by providing care packages, emotional support, and monthly meals for families staying at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
Everything I do is rooted in one belief: no one should have to fight cancer alone.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2015, I heard the words no one wants to hear: You have cancer.
That moment changed my life forever. I faced fear and uncertainty, but I was determined to not let cancer define me.
My journey taught me that resilience isn’t about never breaking. It’s about getting back up, even when life hits hard.
Now as a 10-year survivor and founder of Lady T Hope Brigade, I walk in purpose. Supporting others while they fight became purpose, and my story became a testimony.
I’m living proof that even in your toughest season, strength, faith, and resilience can carry you through.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn is that being strong means carrying everything on my own.
For most of my life, I’ve been the strong one, the one people call, lean on, and depend on. I was used to handling things, pushing through, and figuring it out no matter what.
Then in 2015, cancer changed everything.
For the first time, I was in a position where I needed help and that was hard for me. I had to face the reality that strength doesn’t mean suffering in silence or carrying every burden alone.
I had to unlearn that asking for help was weakness.
I learned that real strength is being vulnerable, accepting support, and allowing people to show up for me too.
Now I understand deeply: nobody is meant to fight alone. And sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let people love and support you through the hard seasons.
