We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamika Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamika below.
Tamika, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I have a love of helping people and I wanted to do it on a larger forum. So we came up with the idea of wanting to give back to others after God spared my life after my small battle with Uterine Cancer.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Lady T’s Hope Brigade is a Registered 501c3 Nonprofit Organization that started in February 2016 and rebranded in August 2021. Lady T’s was originally created to be a platform for providing support to those struggling with Cancer. We provided our support/service by bringing/serving meals once a month to those staying/receiving treatment at The Hope Lodge at the American Cancer Society as well as their family.
Lady T’s expanded our platform in 2021 to be able to serve others in the community who needed a helping hand. Twice per month we prepare 100-200 personal hygiene and snack bags to pass out to our Homeless Residents in the Nashville Area.
On January 14, 2022 Lady T’s wanted to be able to help more people in the community so we opened a Food and Clothing Pantry to assist families who may have fallen on hard times and need additional help.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am Tamika Marshall aka Lady T. On September 25, 2015 I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer. I was in a state of shock and full fear because that CANCER word is very scary. I was confused but was DETERMINED to not be defeated. Not once did I question “WHY ME” I knew I had alot to live for and I was going to do just that… I was going to LIVE. I prayed and talked to GOD more than I ever had. I had a great support team of family and friends and I surrounded myself with positive people.
I had a total hysterectomy on October 15, 2015 and even though waiting on the results from the surgery was another SCARY time for me, I finally got the results of being CANCER FREE on October 23, 2015. The cancer was contained in the uterus. Grade 1 Stage 1 and all things removed during the hysterectomy showed no signs of cancer cells. No Chemo…No Radiation needed. BUT GOD!!
While going through all the trials I have endured throughout this thing called life, My life has spared so many times. From being a runaway, being sexually abused, having and making it through Cancer, having and making it through Covid. Nothing but GOD!! He is a HEALER, PROTECTOR and a WAYMAKER. He KEPT me through it all and STILL KEEPING ME. This is the reason I go so hard with my passion for helping others. amongst other things I KNOW God is not done with me. He has more work for me to do and I am ready to get the job done.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to UNLEARN was expecting others to feel the same way, do things the way I do or support me as I have supported them. You will be let down tremendously if you do.
