We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamika Carlton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamika below.
Tamika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Quality relationships are key to our happiness. Experiences are essential to the way we all evolve. Developing incredible relationships and experiences is the mission of my company, Couples Experience. When I was just 13 years old, my father died unexpectedly. As an only child and the only black girl in many situations, no one understood what I was going through. I couldn’t express it. I lost the words. I lost the ability, but above all, I lost the time.
As someone who was, by circumstance, alone – eventually, I did something new. I set out to fill the gaps. I traveled. I did things solo. I got to know myself. I was present. And then came the magic. Connection – deeper than I knew existed. In a partner, in my career, and with myself. One thing I’ve learned for sure – life is short. As the founder of Couples Experience, I’ve dedicated my work to helping people connect to themselves and others. I am relentless when it comes to giving a roadmap to happiness, to people being more open and accepting. There’s a saying, when people think they have more time, they live in the future, but when people think their time is limited, they live in the present.
I don’t want anyone to think — I wish I had more time. I want you to live, experience, and be happy. With only 14% of Americans reporting being very happy, Couples Experience is changing that stat, one couple at a time!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
With my marketing and SEO background, my goal is always to build business longevity. Committing ourselves to build up our SEO strategy has allowed us to build our business organically and consistently. The conversion percentage is higher, and it is much easier to convert prospects when people find you versus you having to find them.
Our content has been valuable, consistent, and aligned with us as people, a brand, and a company. Content matters and something great happens when your marketing strategy begins with how you can serve your prospective clients. It’s not just getting leads; it becomes about building lasting and loyal relationships. I highly recommend this approach.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, there are plenty of books that I have read, but at first thought, I have two I would like to share. We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers. This book helped to shift my mindset from scarcity to possibility. It was Rachel’s teachings that made space for the idea of me being a multi-millionaire who serves the community while having access to more funds. It was a game-changer.
Another book I refer to is The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. I love the messaging. It reminded me of how important it is to show up consistently. To maintain your work ethic and represent yourself well at all times because one day, all those small things you never thought mattered will compound. You will then see the fruits of your label come into reality.
