We recently connected with Tamicka Stephens and have shared our conversation below.
Tamicka, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
It was not hard at all to come up with a name for my business. It only took me about a day to fully decide on the name. Because my name is Tamicka my mothers name is Terri and my kids name is Trin and Tristen. So our whole household starts with the name T. hence the name 4Tees because I started with just making tee shirts so the name 4 Tees Custom Designs. We turn your dream shirts into a reality. Anything really!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Wow this question brings so much tears and joy at the same time. I was laid off during those first three weeks when Covid shut down the world. I had a world of emotions. How could I be laid laid off when I do do much for the company I worked for. I’d still be working from home up until midnight before Covid. But I had been toying with the idea for a long time about starting my own tee shirt company for some time. I just never had the time because I worked several jobs. So time wasn’t on my side. The lord said I can show you better than I can tell you.
If you can work 12 hours for someone else. You can definitely put that amount of time into your own business and work for yourself.
So I got started. I took all I had in my small savings and my last two paychecks which included my vacation time pay and brought the things I would need to get started. One of the first few items I made was for the job I had gotten laid off from. I made graduation mugs and a shirt for the school principal.
They have my consistent customer ever since. I’ve never looked back.
I started with just making shirts and mugs which then lead to custom basketballs and footballs, backdrops, banners, book bags, duffel bags, chess pieces coasters, wine glass holders. And even transfers, just to name a few the list is very long.
Party treats such as chip bags and even have party supplies. 360 Photo Booth, cotton candy rental and popcorn.
I can and will customize just about anything. If you dream it 4 TEES CUSTOM DESIGNS will do it.
The solution 4Tees provides is standing out from the crowd. You can get any and everything customized. We listen to what the.customer wants and over deliver. We/I treat every customer as a family member as this is a family run business. When I get booked and busy every in my house is put to work. Everything is handmade with love and care here. We/I for the extra mile with it all.
What I would like for everyone to know about my company is that all though it is a small business for now it comes with big plans of even branching into the community of teaching our children a more positive way of earning money and being creative so be on the lookout. As I had even branched my original business to now even being my own supplier when needed
Please know i put 110% into everything I create , make and sell.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How do I build my social media presence. That’s so funny as I’m still building that presence. But the reality is you have to be active and engage with your social media audience daily. While others use social media as just a place to see what’s going on with your friends and family. I have learned that social media is a tool and try to use it accordingly. I’m 43 so social media is not my thing so I have learned that I have to schedule my content. Yea some days I miss and trust me I notice that when I miss doing this important step that business slows down.
My kids also help me as sometimes I can’t figure out how to get into my IG’s and my tiktoks.
Please please please do not forget how important social media is to you growing your business across all the states and possibly the world.
Schedule the content
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for me has been me wearing my brand always wearing something I make/sell. Going to pop up event having a table and always having my contact information readily available. Even if I don’t make any sales that day. It’s the networking that plays a role because 9 out of 10 times. Someone will call text or email me saying I seen you at said event and was hoping you could help me with something. So the sales always comeback around. Just being out letting people see touch and feel your products. Telling and talking to people. Letting them know what you do
