Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tami Waters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tami, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
This thought crosses my mind every once in a while when I’m writing an email at 6am (right now lol) or can’t sleep because I’m thinking about solutions for the next day / six months. That being said, it still just is a thought followed by gratefulness in knowing that I’m doing the things I love and WANT to do for myself and my family and maybe someday I just need a few more boundaries so I can get some sleep.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a wearer of quite a few hats but in short I am an Interior Designer for my firm Tipping Pointe Design, mostly working with boutique businesses wanting elevated design for their retail or dining spaces.
I also own The Tipping Pointe Venue which mostly caters to Photography Shoots and Intimate Weddings and am currently in the finishes process of a gelato shop I’m opening with my business partner in downtown fresno called Gelateria Del Centro. The gelato shop has been super special to work on due to the fact that we are located in the historic Warners Center and are taking inspo from it’s Art Nouveau style to recreate that look and feel inside the shop. They even let us raid their basement so we are incorporating some old theatre fixtures and lighting.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Bringing folks together has been my biggest drive in my journey. Meeting and befriending so many people I would have never encountered had I been working for someone in a cube. That energy is unmatched and is a beautiful thing watching everyone around you growing in their businesses. I’m surrounded by alot of creatives everyday as Tipping Point HQ has become sort of a hub for collaboration, so one day we might decide lets pull together a set and shoot for someones project and it all comes together pretty naturally.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I have pivoted a whole lot with the Venue. We launched in the middle of Covid lol. soooo there weren’t any events. During that time we took in traveling nurses for short term lodging because of the shortage. Now we constantly are bringing groups together in the name of Art, Fashion, Design and good food.
