We were lucky to catch up with Tameshia Effinger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tameshia , appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Wow, The most life changing risk I’ve taken was moving away from my home town where my family and friends reside. I made the decision to move to Atlanta Georgia to expand my business and grow more . At first it was an idea that turn reality, and before you know it my kids and I were on the road to Georgia to start a new life and business. We are now 1 year in and it has been amazing .

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Serial Entrepreneur! I have about 5 different businesses that I run . So let’s start I am a hairstylist that specializes in Alopecia braiding and hair loss. I am also a licensed cosmetologist instructor . I also own a Natural hair school (The Institute for Braiding and Natural Hair ) , I also own a product line ( Seven13products.com ) and lastly something I’ve just gotten into since the move , I make braided wigs for hair loss clients. .
I am most proud of all the the things that I have accomplished one of my favorites is the natural hair school, because it allows me to help other stylist fulfill their dreams.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
This went viral on TikTok. When I first moved to Georgia I was on the hunt to find new clientele. So I got my business cards and went to a lot of different stores and played a game I made up called “The Braid Price is Right” I would walk up to random people and ask them if they wanted to play . The rules were they could name their price and if It was fair to me and fair to them the would get the style they wanted for the price they wanted it. It was very fun but also had to take some courage to walk up to strangers and pitch your brand right then and there.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The time I had to pivot in business and life was when I moved from my hometown . I had to change everything that I was use to doing because things were different . Even my marketing skills changed for my business because I had to get it by any means necessary. Some of the styles I do in Georgia I never did in Memphis . I had to go with what was happening in my new state , because that is where I make my living Now .
