We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tamesha Benson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tamesha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I may be a little biased but I think I have the best customers in the world. I have created such a culture of family within my business that I have been able to create strong relationships within my business. One thing that I have done to show my customers how much I appreciate them is random free giveaways, special giveaways on their birthdays, and customer appreciation events to just thank them.
Tamesha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! Well for those who don’t know me, My name is Tamesha Benson and I am the sole owner of Mesha’s Sweet Treats. Most people call me Mesha. I started MST in 2015 as an official business however, I have been baking since I was five years old. I always have had a love for baking and people; starting this business allowed me to do both! I am a home-based bakery located in Rock Hill Area but service all surrounding areas as well as this year we now ship statewide. Most of my clients allow me to be a part of their grand dessert needs as well as small moments from birthday parties, or simply dessert cravings. What has set me apart from many other bakeries is the variety of items I offer. Most of my clients come to me because of the experience they get from ordering from me, the relationships built, and the quality of the items they get. The most thing I am proud of is just how far I have gotten within my field. When I started I barely had customers, slow sales, no followers, and so many problems.. but because I stuck it out and continued to work hard I have been on tv, and now have 55K followers, teaching classes, constant sales, and have gotten the opportunity to be a full-time small business owner. When people see MST I want them to think family, I want to know they’re getting the best of the best.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social Media and Popup Shops. Social media can both good and bad however, I have been opened up to such a wide range of customers because I post regularly on social media. Popup shops have been a great way for me to obtain new clients and just connect with them as I continue to grow,
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think one of the things that helped us build a successful reputation within our market has been our transparency within our business. Another thing that helped was the relationships we have developed with our clients. They trust us and that trust keeps them coming back and feel comfortable sharing their experiences with us to the people they care about which helps continue to grow.
