We recently connected with Tameria Leatrice and have shared our conversation below.
Tameria Leatrice, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
According to The Century Foundation, In 2020, the U.S. maternal mortality rate was 23.8 deaths per 100,000 live births, with 861 known deaths due to maternal causes. Not to mention the Cesarean rates sitting at 31.8%, with African American women and babies leading with the highest percentage of 35.8%. Not considering the affects of mental health complications surrounding PMADs, which affects 1 of 5 birthing people during and after pregnancy. These statistic alone proves that there has been a major fall in the Maternal Healthcare system. There’s a saying, ” You dont realize how something affects you, until it does”.
There’s so much truth in that statement. Before becoming a mom I was not aware of how Maternal Healthcare affected women. After having my own experiences as a woman transitioning through Pregnancy, Birthing, Postpartum and Motherhood I gained two major lifechanging lessons, awareness and the power of knowledge.
After experiencing complications during pregnancy, birthing and postpartum, I was led to create a space where mothers could be edcuated and properly equipped to make informed decisions to preapre to be well through each transition of the Perinatal Phase, including Pregnancy, Birthing, Postpartum into Motherhood.
So I created, The Wellness Club, our mission is to provide mother’s with the blueprint to a healthy motherhood experience by educating, empowering and equipping moms to transtion well. Let’s get into the story behind the brands…
I rolled out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom. I had been feeling terrible for the last few days so I asked my boyfriend to grab a pregnancy test on his way in from work. Barely awake I opened the package, proceeded to pee in the little cup so I can complete the test. Nervously, I dropped my warm pee on tester using the little dropplet that came in the package. Waiting nervously, I watch the lines appear on the pregnancy test. As the two lines appeared and confirmed I was pregnant.
I felt like my life was over. The only thing I could think about was.. what am I going to do with two children. “My career as a Traveling Makeup Artist is over”, I thought.
I was at my lowest point in life, I wanted to die. I can remember laying on the couch, in the dark for days. Not wanting to talk to anyone, not answering the phone for anyone, not eating, I was depressed. I was numb. I can remember my boyfriend coming in from work trying to get me eat, trying to understand why I was so distressed. I didn’t even have words for him. I didn’t even have the words to pray, nevertheless to talk.
I was scared, times where uncertain. Not to mention, we were in the thick of COVID19 and the last thing I needed was more isolation, but that’s where I felt most comfortable, in isolation, alone.
Fast forward to a few months further into my pregnancy, my amazing Coach, Elle Antoinette guided me to pull myself out of the deep rut I was in. After doing some much needed deep root work, I began my intentional living journey which inspired me to become a certified as a Life Coach.
Towards the end of my pregnancy, I was hit with devasting news, I was borderline Gestational Diabetic. As a nutritionist and a life coach that was a hard pill to swallow. On top of that, in reality I was facing doctors who were instructing me to induce my labor for no apparent reason. I was not in distress and neither was baby. At that moment I was happy to have a Doula who educated me on my rights the ability to follow my own intuition. A week later, I gave birth to a healthy little baby boy who is now 2 years old which led me to a rebirth as a woman, a mother and entrepreneur. This is story behind both of my amazing businesses, The Wellness Club and Momlife As A Mompreneur.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Tameria Leatrice, also known as The Mama’s Wellness Coach, I support moms and momprenuers to live well through birth, balance and business. The “3 B’s” as I call it. Three of my top favorite topics to discuss; birth, balance and business. My heart has always been big for Maternal Healthcare, Holistic Health & Self-care and last but certainly not least, Business.
After experiencing some major difficulities, including PMAD’s and even nearly being homelessly trying to figure out business. I wanted to set the tone for moms to live well and to change the narrative of motherhood being STRUGGLEhood to leading moms to intentionally creating the lives they desire without the overwhemed and burnout.
I truly believe that every mom deserves a fair shot in each aspect of life, so I was lead to create The Wellness Club, which later led me to create my personal brand, Momlife As A Mompreneur.
The Wellness Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, equipping and empowering moms through the transitions of Pregnancy, Birthing, Postpartum and Motherhood.
While building TWC, I discovered the need to create a space for momprenenurs and aspiring mompreneurs who are really to do the work it takes to be well spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, socially, and financially.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I can honestly say that resilience is one of the many factors that brought me throught this past year. As I was building The Wellness Club platform, I also watched my mother transtition to the next life. This is the most sadden, but peaceful event that I have ever experienced. Even those words are just understatement as to how I felt during this devasting time. So when I say that resilience carried me, I meant that.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
RIght now as we speak, I am preparing to shift my business model. This is also apart of the work I will be doing with mompreneurs. Specifically as mompreneurs, there is not alot of talk surrounding how becoming a mother or becoming a mother of multiples can affect business. Specifically, knowing when it’s time to pivot. Furthermore, helping mompreneurs to align their business with their lifestyle.
