Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tameka Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tameka, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Always Truth Incorporated is dedicated to teaching, reaching, and uplifting to help inspire people of all ages through motivational speaking, poetry, educational raps, books, and on-line courses. I am always excited to hear testimonials of how I helped build confidence and character in students. The following testimonial is one of many that continue to inspire me to create motivational messages and products that will positively impact the community. Testimonial: “I’ve attended several of Tameka’s events and it’s inspiring to see the impact she has on our youth. She allows them to speak positive affirmations, believing that they are enough. I love how she encourages the kids to focus on nothing less than positivity. While observing interactions, I can tell some of the kids have probably never heard anything positive about themselves and to see their eyes light up with a smile after listening to one of her inspirational poems or activities allowing them to jot down their talents or something they are good at, it makes me happy. Tameka is truly a blessing to this community!”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I had the privilege of being voted Teacher of the Year in 2005. I enjoyed teaching and wanted to impact the youth on a larger scale. I saw the need to develop programs to help our youth build confidence and character and as a result, started my business, Always Truth Incorporated. Always Truth Incorporated is dedicated to teaching, reaching, and uplifting, to help inspire people through motivational speaking, books, poetry, and educational rap. In order to grow as a speaker, I joined Toastmasters and won best speaker in Toastmaster’s Speech Competition. I also had the opportunity to receive coaching from an international public speaker. I graced the stage as a poet at the Georgia World Congress Center, was invited to be on The Good Life on WTGL TV 45, and was interviewed on several radio shows. Always Truth Incorporated’s mission is to provide quality educational services to benefit people of all ages in the areas of writing, reading, character education, and life skills. Always Truth Incorporated assists in creating an environment where students are motivated to strive for excellence. I have the ability to teach students/adults in a fun way that fosters a love for learning and growth through poetry, educational rap, and motivational speaking. It brings me so much joy to hear how my products/services have positively impacted people in the community.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I have been in business since 2006. After moving to another city in 2011, I had to rebuild my business. Although many businesses were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, this was a positive pivotal moment for Always Truth Incorporated. The crisis gave me the opportunity to be innovative. During the COVID-19 crisis, I was able to publish two books and one journal. In addition, I created and hosted the Inspiration from A to Z 15 Minute Moments show on social media. When faced with challenges we have two decisions, we can have a pity party or we can have a praise party. I chose to have a praise party and exercise my belief that great things are in store despite how the situation looks. This belief allowed me to produce books, online courses, videos for parents, educational videos for students, host community events, start a women’s group, and motivate youth and adults through speaking engagements. The crisis taught me to stay ready, so I don’t have to get ready.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
“Strive for perfection” is a quote we often hear. Although this quote is meant to be positive, it has hindered many people. At the start of my business, I often followed this philosophy and I realized this hindered my progress. There were many products I waited to produce because they did not reach my standard of perfection. In this season of my life, I realize that I don’t need to strive for perfection, but instead I need to strive for excellence. When I learned to strive for excellence, I was able to focus on the positives and set reasonable and attainable goals. I challenge anyone who has a goal to accomplish to allow themselves to make mistakes, focus on the positives, and obtain goals in a timely manner. If you continue to strive for excellence you will be successful. You will learn from your mistakes and realize your mistakes don’t define you, but will help push you to your purpose. Enjoy the process!
