We recently connected with Tamara Richards and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice I have given to a client was to give themselves grace. This particular client, just like many, had all of her goals laid out of how she wanted to tackle her weight loss journey, but she was met with the demanding schedule of being a mom and the challenge of trying to find time for self.
Telling her to give herself grace and helping her realize that she’s doing the best that she can with the time and energy she had shifted her energy, mindset, and approach for weight loss.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, my name is Dr. Tamara Richards. I am a board certified pharmacist, certified nutritionist, wife, mom of 2 girls, and owner of Virtuous Bodies. Virtuous Bodies is a faith based nutrition coaching business that specializes in helping moms learn how to eat confidently without the restrictions of dieting while juggling all things motherhood.
My combined experience of being a clinical pharmacist for 10+ years, nutritionist for dozens of moms, and my own weight loss journey of losing over 35+ lbs. after 2 C-section pregnancies while juggling motherhood helps me provide a holistic approach to weight loss for moms.
Inside my signature group coaching program, Blood, Sweat, and Macros, I use 4 pillars: mindset, movement, nutrition, and motivation to help moms learn the true value and importance of prioritizing themselves while implementing practical systems that create healthy habits for themselves and their families. At the end on my 8 week group coaching program I am not most proud of the inches or weight loss, but the systems created, bad eating habits that are broken, and routines created for a healthier life and home.
I also have a monthly meal planning membership that helps mom plan healthy, balanced meals that support their weight loss without jeopardizing their families taste buds. All meals are tried and tested inside my home, let just say they are hubby and kid approved.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is being transparent and allowing them see my own struggles with motherhood while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I have had clients hire me because they themselves were struggling with some of my challenges or they actually saw themselves in me.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
My experience as a clinical pharmacist helps me help my clients in a unique way. Because I understand how to body works and how prescription/non-prescription meds effect the body I provide a unique style of coaching that centers around optimizing my clients health. If they can prioritize their health, the weight will take care of itself. So I am able to help clients identify medical conditions, medications, supplements that are either impacting their health/weight to truly help them.
