We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamara Operi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamara below.
Tamara , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
One of my most memorable experiences was when I was working for Charlotte Tilbury. It was a quiet day at the counter when I noticed a lady in her 80s while traffic stopped. I decided to offer her a makeover, thinking it would be a nice gesture. At first, she laughed and replied, “Oh gosh, love, I don’t even look in the mirror anymore. But thank you.” Undeterred, I suggested she take a seat and I would treat her to a little makeup session.
She hesitated for a moment, then said, “Okay, go on then. Sure, why not?” As we began the session, I could see her spirit lifting with each step of the makeover. It was like witnessing a transformation before her eyes. My goal wasn’t to drastically change her face, but to show her a few tricks and tips that makeup could do.
By the time the session was over, I couldn’t get her out of the chair or away from the mirror. Keep in mind, this was the same lady who just 20 minutes ago had told me she didn’t look in the mirror anymore . She didn’t end up purchasing any makeup products, but for me, the feeling was better than making a 20-unit sale. Just the fact that I could make someone feel better about themselves meant everything to me.
That experience made me realize that I possessed a special gift, and it’s something I carry with me in everything I do.
Tamara , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I would say my love for beauty started very early. Growing up in Paris and Ireland, beauty is the culture.
I would go to Sephora on the Champs Elysee with my mam on weekends and spend hours playing around with different brow and make-up products.
I’ve always loved make-up; one thing I would never leave the house with even as a teenager were my Eyebrows,
However, it wasn’t until I started working for Charlotte Tilbury in Ireland that I really learned the power of beauty and how it could make one feel.
What made me fall in love with beauty was the fact that I could literally lift someone up by applying a little bit of eyebrow pencil and give someone beautiful brows.
It was always when I got to the brows that I felt ”okay now you’re a QUEEN. Women would come to me with no make-up on at all, but as soon as id create a pair of brows for them, that’s when the real transformation would happen and I am not talking only physically but emotionally the confidence and demeanor it would give them, was something that truly made me want to give more and perfect my craft to create more life-changing moments. In fact, if I had a penny for every time someone would say I wish I had you every day to fill in my brows, that’s where the thought stuck with me and here we are a couple of years later, I packed up and moved to LA and started Brow Queen LA where I get to make that happen every day, and it’s magical.
Every day that someone leaves the Brow Queen Chair after nicknamed’ ‘the throne”, they leave a confident brow queen ready to conquer the world and if I can help with making someone feel more confident and happy about themselves my goal is reached.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
“I believe that going into business with the right mindset means helping people. As someone working in the field of semi-permanent makeup, my goal is to assist individuals in saving time during their morning routine and showcasing their natural beauty. I want to show them that they can both feel and look good by accentuating their existing features.”
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I never leave my bed or fall asleep without thanking God for another day of Blessings. Several years ago my mother bought me the book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. When I read The Secret I started seeing everything like a game as if the world was my catalogue and everything in it was within reaching distance of the Universe I existed in. I started playing the Law of Attraction game with something as small as visualizing a big sale at work or just some good news. I would go to work and look at expensive clothes on the shop floor as if I were there on a shopping spree. Over the years I got more into it I started creating vision boards visualizing what I would like to achieve. I’ve got to say it works!! I try to live in a mindset that “everything always works out for me.”
