We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamara Dias . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamara below.
Tamara , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
I’ve been fortunate to have a few impactful leaders throughout my career. During my time in school leadership, I actually worked alongside a leader who taught me that regardless of my title, there was no role that was “above me” as a leader. She was a true servant leader, and she taught me to work in partnership with people – rather than considering myself above them. This has absolutely influenced how I lead and how passionate I am about serving the teams I lead. Whether a large or small team, I am always focused on how I’m supporting others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a coach for years across the corporate and nonprofit spaces, usually training senior leaders in topics that promote safe and inclusive organizations. After my own shift in my personal life, I developed a passion for financial wellness and education. That led me to do a rebrand of my business to focus on financial wellness and education. As the Founder of Good Soil Education, I partner with clients to map out their individualized plan for financial freedom to live in a way that brings them joy.
I’m a certified Financial Social Work educator and financial consultant, and my passion is working with fellow millennials and women who are ready to transform their financial futures. I know that money can be a sensitive area for many of us, and I try to create space for conversations that can spark financial transformation for families and communities. I do this through one-on-one coaching, guidance around life insurance and annuities, and I also facilitate workshops and retreats.
My expertise is my background in education. In addition to teaching in K-12 and higher education, I am also certified in adult learning. When working with me, clients can talk about money in a relatable, authentic, and easy-to-understand way. I’m a teacher at heart, and I think that makes the topic of money a little less scary to discuss.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I always say that previous clients are the best source of business. My track record as a CEO in the nonprofit space and leader in the community has solidified my reputation as an entrepreneur. It brings me joy when a new client wants to work with me, and they’ve heard about previous work I’ve done in the community. That’s my reminder that every stage of our lives sets us up for the next – don’t disregard any part of your personal journey!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’m a book lover with an overflowing bookshelf, so it’s hard to pick one. I recently read “Lead to Win” by Carla Harris, and I love how she reminds us to use our influence to be great leaders. In the book, she reminds us that the people we lead “experience us” on a daily basis, and she challenges us to reflect on what we want that experience to be. Whenever I’m interacting with someone, I’ll always ask myself: “How do you want them to say they experienced you in this moment? What do you want them to say about you when this interaction is done?” It holds me accountable to show up in a way that’s not simply self-serving, but also pours into others.
