We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamara DeOrio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamara below.
Tamara, appreciate you joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
On a regular Wednesday back in July 2021, I picked up the kids from camp and ended up at a friend’s house. Little did I know that day would change everything.
We found ourselves at a really high pier overlooking the ocean, and I stood there forever, like 20 minutes, while everyone told me to jump. But I was too busy overthinking how everything could go wrong. I was sure I’d break my suit, break a bone, get eaten by a shark – you name it.
But you know what? I jumped. I can’t tell you exactly what made me do it. But it only took two seconds once I landed in the water to realize all the crazy reasons I thought I couldn’t do it were excuses.
I went home, posted the video, and shared how scared I was, but now I feel way more confident, and you can do this too! And then this local celebrity photographer commented on my post that he’d take my picture the next time I jumped.
He’s shot the big shots like Michael Dell and Jeff Bezos, and he’s offering to take MY picture? I couldn’t let fear mess this up. Even though it meant jumping off that pier again – seriously, me? Jumping again? Two weeks later, heart racing, Michael texts me, “I can take your picture in an hour.”
My heart’s pounding, but I’m not as scared as the first time. I hesitated only for one minute this time as the need for that perfect shot overcame my fear. I did it again. Jumping is scary, but you don’t get better at it by just thinking. You gotta do it. And because I survived it once, I knew I could do it again.
I shared the second video and got this response: “When you jumped off the pier, it was the ah-ha moment when I realized you are someone I needed in my life. To get even 10% of the confidence you have would be a gift.” The next thing I know, this woman DMs me and says, “I want you to coach me.” I’m thinking, “Coach? Uh, give me a second.”
I literally Googled “How to be a confidence coach.” I got a coach, joined a group, wrote a course, started coaching, got killer testimonials – and here I am, living a dream life. All because I didn’t let fear stop me from taking the leap.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Tamara, the face behind Today with Tamara. I’m a mom and entrepreneur, navigating the chaos of life, but with a ton of confidence that I built by taking action.
I realized a few years ago I had been posting inspirational content on social that women were relating with. My super real and raw content shows the highs, lows, and messy middle of life. And just by being my authentic self, I created a dream job.
My goal is simple yet powerful: to inspire women to pursue their passions, embrace a healthy, active lifestyle, and nurture a deep sense of self-assurance.
I’m on a mission to empower women aged 24-45 using a blend of positivity, vibrancy, enthusiasm, and confidence, all wrapped up in an educational, compassionate, and relatable tone. I’m not just talking about confidence but fostering a community of unstoppable girls and women.
TWT Slogan: A Confident Tomorrow Starts Today.
It’s not just about coaching; it’s about creating a connection and a holistic journey towards confidence and self-discovery. I provide coaching, resources, and a community where women can thrive. I’m proud of turning my leap of faith into a platform that resonates with women nationwide.
I am in the middle of writing an online course and moving my confidence-inspiring line of merchandise to a new website. And stay tuned for a YouTube podcast! As someone who inspires others to go after their hopes, dreams, and goals, I have to do the same! And you know I’m starting TODAY!
One of my favorite sayings to wrap things up is Love you. Gotta go. Bye. Because we could sit here and talk about what we want to do with our lives all day! So, enough talking about it. It’s time we get up and go and do the darn thing! Bye!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I worked for a company in Boston, and I don’t want to give too many details about it except this: my boss didn’t like that I wore bright colors and spoke up in meetings.
My boss was a woman, and my time at the job lasted only a short time. I learned from this experience that “this is her problem, not mine.” She had something going on, but I wasn’t taking it on. So I left, where I could wear what I wanted, share my opinion, and be welcomed.
I use this incident to show what not to do as a manager and to encourage women to never change their values because of someone else. My values are confidence, freedom, and inspiration – nobody can take them away.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
It was a Sunday night in the summer of 2020, and I had been laid off from work due to the pandemic and felt sorry for myself. I was scrolling through Instagram, complaining out loud about all the other photographers taking pictures to sell.
My 7-year-old daughter Sofia innocently asked why I didn’t put some of my photos up for sale. It made me pause and consider what she said. If someone without business experience had the idea, why couldn’t I? And if my daughter was bold enough to say I should try, shouldn’t I lead by example? Looking back, I realize I wasn’t just taking her advice. I was starting a whole new mindset.
The next day, I dropped her off at camp and sat at the same dining room table to ask Google how to sell photography online. Once I had the answers, it only took two days to find a website, post my work, and share it publicly.
This situation begs the question: do you need confidence to take action or take action to get it? After having sold hundreds of pieces, I can only imagine if I hadn’t pushed that share button with the world and had kept wondering what if. Since then, I’ve adopted the belief that a confident future begins today, and the only way to determine if it’s true is by testing it.
