We recently connected with Tam The Viibe and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tam The Viibe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always knew ever since I was a kid. Discovering BET, MTV, and VH1 opened up my mind beyond my small town world. I listened to everyone and anything. I watched just about any all music videos that came out. I always had a song in me as a kid. I was always humming something or making up my own words to songs that were already on the radio. I realized that I could rap when I started writing poetry and then I just immersed myself from there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tam The Viibe. I stylize my name Viibe with two “I”s because with the two eyes I use to see I observe the world and those observations are what allow me to create the music that I do. I am from a small town on the coast of South Carolina called Pawley’s Island but Columbia is home. I am a neo hip hop artist and host/curator of music events. I give other artists opportunities and platforms to display their talents to the world.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I always recommend and go back to the The Four Agreements. Those four agreements have helped me to deal with myself and with other people. I am now able to better discern attitudes and behaviors, even my own. I always refer back to that book as I continue to grow on my journey.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is that I connect with people. Through song I speak my mind and heart and I’m finding that I’m speaking into others as I am doing that. I’ve people come up to me after shows and tell me what my words meant to them and that means so much to me. It makes me feel and know that I’m not alone in this world and I see I make people feel less lonely as well.
