We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Talyn Gibbs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Talyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
The most important lesson learned as a creative is having a work life balance. It is so important to not allow yourself to burnout and always put your happiness first. Being passionate about work and wanting to get the job done is such a great quality to have- but not at the expense of your mental health and work load. It is okay to ask for assistance, set boundaries and take breaks. There will always be another day to complete the task. Put yourself first. You will only be able to give as much as you have don’t allow yourself to become empty.
Talyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My career aspirations began after I attended the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University.
During my time there I was able to learn different industries and sectors of journalism and was given the opportunity to try new things to really create my own path and network with amazing companies and brands.
I have a passion for content creation, photography, marketing, social media and brand management. I am most proud of creating magic with brands and executing their vision while also being authentic.
A 2023 goal for myself is to continue to create amazing partnerships and elevate my freelance contacts and projects.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is executing a project and seeing all of your hard work and planning unfold. For me nothing feels better than being passionate about something and watching it come to life. Being able to reflect and reminisce the plan previously and seeing the final product while also making the client happy is the most rewarding.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Being able to say that I am a creative because I truly love being unapologetically myself drives my journey. Every year I set personal goals and strive to achieve them and have fun doing so. Being a creative doesn’t seem like a job for myself- its a natural love. I learn through this industry more and more about myself and the businesses around me and only end up growing. Advice I would give to all is be yourself, and don’t change for anyone- be proud of who you are.
