We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Talita Guerrero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Talita below.
Hi Talita, thanks for joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I’m a strong advocate for taking vacations, as they are one of my passions, and I make it a point to enjoy them frequently. My 12-year-old daughter has had the incredible opportunity to visit nearly 30 countries with me. I firmly believe in the value of taking breaks to rejuvenate both the mind and body, as it plays a pivotal role in enhancing productivity.
With over 15 years of experience in the mortgage industry, I’ve witnessed tremendous growth, having taken our company from just 3 employees to almost 50 in less than 5 years. In addition to my role at Right Key Mortgage, I’ve ventured into several other businesses, all while ensuring I take multiple vacations each year. I firmly stand by the belief that vacations do not harm your business; rather, burnout does.
Entrepreneurs, in particular, should strive to strike a balance in their lives. Finding time to recharge and celebrate their hard-earned successes is essential. This not only transforms you into a better leader but also a more present parent, devoted spouse, loyal friend, and active member of your community. My resolute conviction is that a balanced life is the key to sustained success and fulfillment.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Certainly! Here’s an introduction for Talita Guerrero:
I’m Talita Guerrero, a mother of two, a 12 and 19 year old. My life’s journey began when I immigrated from Brazil at the age of 12. At 16, I became a mother, a pivotal moment that sparked a transformative shift in my life. I faced the challenges of dropping out of high school and raising a child, but it became the catalyst for a remarkable journey of growth.
By the age of 18, I ventured into the mortgage business, making it the starting point of my entrepreneurial career. At the tender age of 18, I also made my first investment, setting the stage for an incredible entrepreneurial journey. Over the years, I’ve established a residential mortgage company, a commercial broker, a marketing company, and even launched a podcast named “Voce Pod.” I authored a book titled “The Journey to a Dope Life” and maintain a travel blog. In addition, I’ve founded multiple real estate investment companies.
Today, my focus lies in leading my sales team within my mortgage businesses and engaging in projects that deeply resonate with me. I hold certification as a yoga teacher, which aligns with my commitment to promoting wellness in the business world.
One of my primary challenges within the industry is helping my team achieve a balance in an often stressful and demanding environment. At the core of our approach is our commitment to not treating clients as mere numbers. We take immense pride in educating and empowering others to invest in and realize their homeownership dreams. We’re equally dedicated to the well-being of our clients and community.
What I am most proud of is that I was able to build several successful businesses and help lead my team to success through different challenges the market presented. To be able to constantly reinvent yourself and support your team through those times is something I am extremely proud of.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I hold a steadfast belief in the importance of having a clear mission statement and unwavering dedication to our core values. Over the years, we’ve encountered numerous market changes and faced uncertainties that necessitated adaptation. However, we’ve remained resolute in staying true to our mission, never allowing financial incentives to alter our fundamental identity and purpose.
In my perspective, reputation is fundamentally shaped by these unwavering beliefs. While many tend to pursue financial gain, I advocate for prioritizing the pursuit of results that genuinely benefit our clients. When you focus on delivering these impactful outcomes, financial success naturally follows, creating a significant ripple effect in the process.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My entire life has been characterized by a series of transformations. As a woman, an immigrant, and a Latina in a predominantly male-driven industry, I’ve navigated a unique path. I entered this industry at a very young age, facing the added responsibility of being a single mother. With my entire family having returned to our home country, I’ve been on this journey alone with my son since I was just 19.
These challenges include immigrating to a new country, learning a new language, and working from the age of 13 to contribute to household expenses. Additionally, I had to navigate the intricate path of parenthood while still being, essentially, a child myself. These experiences have forged an immense reservoir of resilience within me, unbreakable by any challenge.
I wholeheartedly believe that being proud of your journey, staying grateful, and remaining open to learning and self-improvement are the keys to success. While the industry I work in is undeniably tough, I can confidently assert that nothing I’ve faced here has been as demanding as the trials I overcame as a teenager. I am profoundly grateful for the myriad of challenges I’ve surmounted, as they have been instrumental in shaping the powerful, resilient woman I have become today.
