We were lucky to catch up with Talisha Kaye recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Talisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve honestly worked on so many meaningful projects over the years, but I’d say the most meaningful project was being able to do makeup for a breast cancer survivor showcase. It’s such an emotional situation to survive something, whether it’s any form of cancer, domestic violence or any of the many adversities that we all face…especially women! It was very emotional being a makeup artist on this project, but the ladies and I were still able to have a great time while they were in the chair. Being in the beauty industry for as long as I have, you deal with so many emotions from different types of clients. I’m with clients when they’re the happiest, and going through major positive life changes. Sometimes I’m even with clients as they experience some of their saddest moments and in between. Ultimately, I understand how to navigate through a service with my clients on a level that makes them feel extremely comfortable. It’s literally therapeutic for them as well as for me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I’m a published model, Make-up artist, Nail Tech, Photographer, and owner of the Winx Couture Lashes brand. I began my makeup artistry career employed with a few top name brands such as MAC, Hourglass, and NARS. I eventually became a freelance makeup artist, working on my own while still employed part-time with a major cosmetic brand. After honing and perfecting my craft over the years, and creating a lane for myself in the Austin, Texas area, I decided to challenge myself a bit more with nail artistry. After graduating and receiving my nail tech license in the fall of 2021, I decided to revamp my image and rebrand my business. Formerly known as “Makeup By Talisha Kaye” respectively, I felt it necessary to update my service menu to now offer other things that I’m very passionate about (nail artistry and photography). Now, as a solidified business owner, and Bella Salon Master Makeup Artist & Nail Tech, I just want all of the hardworking individuals of the beauty industry to know that the sky’s the limit! As I continuously find new and innovative ways to express myself through my artistry, I’d love for my clients to understand that a professional, luxury beauty experience is always needed and very well deserved!!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Making myself and my family proud, as well as making others look and feel their best! I’d like to make it to the very top of the beauty industry and with prayer, hard work and determination I know for a fact that it will happen! It’s been a 13 year grind and I honestly feel like I’ve seen it all, but yet I still have so many personal goals to accomplish! One by one I’m checking them off of my list! ✔️✔️✔️

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In this business you definitely need to have thick skin because you will ALWAYS be tested! Whether it’s by your peers, or clients I think that one should always maintain a level head when dealing with various personalities. People are very particular about their appearance but as long as you ask many detailed questions about the direction that a client wants to go in as far as presentation is concerned, I believe that the client will be more than happy with the outcome. Also, when it comes to your peers, always remain professional but never allow anyone to walk all over you and make you feel like you’re less than. The beauty industry can be a very cruel and malicious environment, which is why it’s always great to stay true to yourself and not conform to anyone else’s standards. In the very beginning of my journey, there were many times where I wanted to give up and walk away from the industry. Certain people/situations along the way really made me question if this was something that I wanted to deal with throughout my career. However, after overcoming those obstacles I’m still standing…and I’m so thankful to have been blessed with such an amazing and rewarding career!
