We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Talisa D’Urso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Talisa below.
Hi Talisa, thanks for joining us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
Blessed and grateful for two hero’s in my life, my parents. Father, Italian immigrant became a self made entrepreneur in restaurants, pizzeria’s, famous nightclub Pizza A Go Go and il Forno bakery in Salerno, Italy. Mother, Army Lieutenant and ER/Psych Nurse. The two diverse careers blended provided me the essential tools I needed throughout life and my career. It gave me power and preserver in my culinary journey: Knowledge- to always grow and learn, Trust – follow your instincts, Strength – to NEVER GIVE UP and always have Faith!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Italian and Cuban. Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Staten Island. I attended, The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
I was born into the hospitality industry. It grew into a great passion which turned into a career.
I was determined to spread my wings and explore life’s adventures through food and travel.
My industry opportunities lead me to: travel in yachting, private chef for athletes, NFL football team, and other clientele. I also dived into the corporate world of high end hotels and country clubs.
In present, I own and operate my own chef services as well as working for the prestigious catering company in Boca raton, Potions in Motions.
The endless Services I provide: personal chef, meal prep, catering, free lance yacht chef.
What I offer my clients, is a service tailored to their personal wants and needs. After all, you are what you eat and health is key. To aid knowledge and insight that cooking isn’t hard all you need is the right set of tools to create tasty food.
The plate is my canvas and my food is the creative piece of art work. – Talisa Durso

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One of my best reads Kitchen Confidential, Anthony Bourdain. It gave me insight on a personal level and the hospitality industry.
The culinary world for me is an adrenaline rush.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
It was at the age of 27, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism Hashimoto. I wasn’t going to let it deter me from my passion in life and career. I had to take a pause to refocus and revive. It gave me time to reflect to become a better version of myself and health in check.
