We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Talazah Kimmons a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Talazah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?

My mom is my hero. When all your life you’ve had someone in your life who just never gave up , giving up is never an option . My mother had me at 16 and every since then she’s done nothing but wake up every single day to try to make my siblings and I life better . I am the the second oldest of 5 so I’ve witnessed my mom’s growth from the beginning . My mom started her career as a nursing coordinator now in the year of 2022 she is a registered nurse delivering babies. During nursing school , my mom worked at the children h ospital for 12-14 hours and then went to school at 7 a.m. with no sleep she was so dedicated to be more and do more that’s what makes me push myself more than every . Any time I hit a bump in the road I say “ I’m Latonia’s daughter “ confidently because in my eyes I have absolutely no room to complain because my mom didn’t . I’m 24 years old and the only responsibility I have is myself , my mom had 5 kids that depended on her and she overcame every obstacle thrown at her. She is always looking for ways to make more money so she can experience places that she’s never seen before. My mom surrounds herself with friends who are always are progressing so she watches them and take it as an influence . The word proud is an understatement to express how happy I am for her . I think words blessed is more fitting . I’m blessed to watch how amazing this woman has become . She’s bought her own house , starting her own business , and going back to school there is no limit when it comes to her . It’s such a blessing to see it .

Talazah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Well my name is Talazah Kimmons . I am Owner of Faith Organixs, my company specializes in self care skin care and body products. My whole life I’ve dealt with skin problems because I had eczema. My doctors always prescribed me steroids, creams, and ointments. I felt like the more I used them the more it damaged my body with hyperpigmentation, scarring, and now stretch marks. My family always tried to find more natural and organic remedies to stop the itching and bleeding and nothing ever worked and if it did work it only worked for a short amount of time. About 2 years ago, I have prescribed medicine that I used over time that caused these red inflamed-looking stretch marks on both of my arms. After seeing the damage, I stop using the steroid ointments and created my own simple body butter that would keep me moisturized and soothe the itching. That was the start of Faith Organixs . Using those same natural and organic remedies that my family tested on me and started to test them on myself. After intense research on what causes the inflammation of eczema and what helps eczema and use the research to create my own body butters. I’m known for the variety of body butter and body scrubs I have. Every season, I release new scents that are related to the holiday or season. I’m most proud of my products curing my customers who have eczema and that my products give them a relief when it comes to the scratching , itching , and inflamed areas . I like my customers/ potential customers to know that my business’ s mission is to make handmade luxury body and skin products that targeted towards the relief of inflammation hyperpigmentation, and eczema . The biggest difference between my business and other skin care businesses is that I am involved in every single formula in every single product . I consult with a wonderful African American female chemist who makes sure that every single product is based on making sure our melanin is protected no matter what ingredient is required . My business is an experience a luxury experience at that . I want my products to make you feel good and as a customer for you to include my products as a “ must have “ in your self care routines.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

In my opinion, resilience is one of the characteristics you have to have when becoming an entrepreneur . Being an entrepreneur is the hardest job I ever had. The biggest obstacle for me is keeping headstrong and motivated to keep going. The summer season is my busiest because of the golden body butter so being able to keep up with orders alone can get overwhelming. When I first started my business I had this big issue when it came too packaging my body butters . My body butters would arrive to the customer either melted, busted , or spilled all over the place . My customers would email me and send me pictures of their products pretty much destroyed. In order to keep my customers coming back I had to resend the order and make sure they were 100% satisfied . In the end I was making my customers happy but for me it was beyond frustrating and costly because I didn’t know how to minimize this problem without raising prices in shipping cost . I had to think of ways to get these body butters to my customers in the best shape possible . My mom and I did trial runs on everything you could think of such as putting dry ice in the packaging, excessive bubble wrapping the body butters , and overnight shipping but with all of those solutions shipping cost almost tripled. My business is based on giving my customers the luxury experience without the hefty luxury prices so I felt like it wasn’t fair to raise my prices because of shipping cost. Now I had think of ways to keep my body butters in a solid and firm state while the order was on its way to the customer . I researched for a two weeks straight on what products can I use and I eventually found a product that was cost effective and minimize my problem. This one ingredient was a household product I would’ve never thought to use that if I didn’t research about it . So I did a trial run for a month straight to see how my customers like the product with the new ingredient and looked to see if my customers felt like the quality was still the same or maybe even better . To my surprise they loved the new formula more and I was so excited for myself because I felt like this is the meaning of never giving up and to keep going . My business promotes natural skincare so I want to make sure that’s what my customers get with every ingredient I use. The shea butter, for example, is the base for my body butter I order my shea butter from one specific place no matter what because I know it’s authentic.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I believe your presence on social media is something a business owner will always work on. Your followers , likes , and shares will constantly change and grow. I’ve been in business for almost 3 years and I’m still growing and challenging myself to grow as far as my audience . Instagram and TikTok are one of the biggest contributions to my following being where it is now . Social media platforms change the algorithm all the time so it can be hard to make sure you are posting promotions , doing the live videos , giveaways , and using the most trending music so that your videos can reach who you are targeting . I also built my audience by word of mouth anytime a customer referred my business to anybody else both customers got a body butter for free . In the first year of opening my business I did a lot of giveaways and live videos constantly because I wanted the engagement from my customer so I made sure I told my family and friends to make sure they tuned in . We also did alot of bundle deals that included a body butter , body scrub , and body oil that all had the same scent . This way the customer could try all 3 products and have to try a different scent because they loved the first bundle so much. My goal is is to stay consistent in posting content because when a customer or potential customer constantly sees my content they want to buy . I’m a consumer myself so when I’m scrolling through any social media platform and I am repeatedly seeing a business I tend to go see what they are selling . My advice for those starting out is be consistent and patient . Being patient was/is still my biggest battle success is not a overnight process neither is growing your social media presence . My business is going to be one of those business that every time you get on instagram, TikTok , and Facebook you will always see content or sales going on your feed .
