We recently connected with Takisha Miller and have shared our conversation below.
Takisha, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
This actually is a funny story now that I think about it. I stumbled upon becoming a life coach in 2011, and literally operated what I thought to be a business without receiving pay until 2016 when I relocated to Atlanta. To me, I was humble, but truly it was not. But I can laugh at that now. I wanted to help people so badly and at the time the audience that I catered to, could not afford my services. From 2011-2016, I was coaching absolutely FREE! And then one day I received a message from a young lady who found me through a Facebook Group that we were both a part of, and asked if could she call me. Of course, I said yes. On a 45-minute call, we knew within 10 minutes that she was about to become my client. This was the first time that I had a 1:1 paying client versus ProBono. I was able to finally sign a 6-month coaching contract with her that day.

Takisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Coach Takisha “Kemi” Miller, but most call me Coach Kemi, I am a wife of 20 years to my amazing husband, a mom of 5 super talented children, and I am a multi-prenuer. I am what you may consider being a Personal Development Coach who helps women of faith create a quality-of-life plan, that consists of health, happiness, security, and comfort with simplicity and less stress. I also am the owner of a Marketing and Events Company, called K. Sheque and a Co-Host of the newest internet radio show with my husband called “Love, Hate & Relationships” on the Sounds of Douglasville Radio,
I tell people that I am truly an O.G. to this coaching thing because I stumbled on it by accident. It started by me simply hosting women’s conferences in my local community, because of a need that I had for sisterhood in my own personal life. One conference turned into 12 years of conferences, a few books, a podcast, signature coaching programs, and guest appearances on numerous platforms. But, I can truly say, that it was only the Lord that gave me these opportunities.
I currently am a speaker alongside with my husband, but in my business, I provide 1:1 VIP Coaching, Group Coaching, Webinar & Workshop training, both individually and corporately.
What sets me apart from a lot of coaches in my lane is number one, I WILL NOT deny JESUS. I am a child of God and proud of it. I have a genuine love for God’s people and for the manifestation of what they are believing for to show in their lives. Though I am a business, the receipt for me is in the testimony. That’s the real proof of success.
In March, I am launching my “NEW” 4-month group program called “Mind Your Business”, and will be accepting new clients for this initial launch. I’m excited about it, because I am in a more powerful place in my personal life and in my business, than I have ever been before, and I have so much clarity and technique to share with everyone who is ready to receive it, and I can’t wait!
I am proud to serve and be a part of the healing journey, to me, it is actually, an honor to be chosen in this manner. When my client and I work together, it is truly us working together. I don’t take it for granted what a person may be going through, but, with me, accountability is one of the core keys to success. I teach my client that I cannot do it for them, but I can do it with them, and when we accomplish a milestone no matter how great or small, we are going to celebrate.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2021, I think everyone had to make a pivot because of the pandemic, and we all are still finding our way through it, but for me in business, it was something so much bigger than just business pivoting, but my whole life shifted. After 11 years of coaching, I abruptly shut my business down on my business anniversary, I was worn out, and frustrated, had poured so much out to others and as I looked at my own life and felt empty, I wanted more for myself, but spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally I was depleted. I had a brand new baby, was forced to leave my 9-5 and for a year I was a full-time entrepreneur. In the midst of this shift, God was working on the inside of me and was realigning me to what I needed to do. I began to rebuild, reevaluate and refocus on what I was going to do, and who I was in it. I needed that moment to just sit down!
For the first time in a long-time, my message was clear! And not that it is, it is time!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This answer is simple. It’s the people sharing their testimonies that make the difference. If no one is telling, then no one is selling. At the beginning of coaching, I never received testimonies, but now, I do not leave without them. They are the very reason others try you. Sometimes it’s just because a friend said you were good. LOL! Sometimes it’s because if the written proof.
