We were lucky to catch up with Takeya Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Takeya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
One night after work laying next to my husband, I started spitting out ideas for new business ideas! I’m like “we should start a sock line…. NO!!… a robe line… NO!! maybe a loungewear line!!!!
So eventually I started ordering samples of things that I liked (Big mistake)! I should have identified who my target audience would be and then bought samples based on that. But you live and you learn.
I started talking to my sister about my ideas ( vision, types of clothing, etc). Once she was onboard, I knew I had the green light.
It was a no-brainer to start a clothing line because me and my sister always bonded over clothes. But I wanted to start a brand surrounded by comfort and confidence! I also wanted it to be family-oriented, so I definitely wanted her to be a part of it!
So it was final, we would start the loungewear brand. I would be the CEO & she would be the COO! Perfect combo for success!
We were most excited about the community we would be building and the sizes (XS-3XL).
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Takeya, the owner of Truly Bonded! I originally got into the loungewear industry by a thought that instantly popped into my head!
We sell all things comfortable and stretchy for women & men! Sweatpants, leggings, matching sets, unisex clothing, tanks, sweaters, etc.!
We strive to provide loungewear pieces that are versatile quality and comfortable clothing. Our loungewear is for people who want to remain comfortable at any occasion.
We are most proud of the success we achieved in such little time!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes, so we built our brand during the COVID pandemic and faced many challenges! After overcoming those challenges we had to pivot as a brand that marketed to customers staying in house and being homebodies 24/7 to transitioning back into the outside world.
We had fun with it and let our customers choose what their likes and dislikes were when it came to “being back outside”. We laugh about that now but we wanted our community to transition back in style & comfort!
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
