Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taja Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taja, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
We live in a time where competition seems to be the focus rather then worrying about oneself and what they have to offer. I’ve never believed in competition when it comes to others that do what I do. I believe there can be 20 boutiques in one area and they all offer something different and not take away from each other. I want to see people flourish no matter what. I want to see other boutiques/ salons and businesses to do well even if they do exactly what I do. How can someone else’s business be competition to me when I’m focusing on me ? If I have something that can help another business, I want to be that help. I don’t worry about what others are doing, I worry about me and make sure im doing what I need to be doing .We can all be amazing and we can all win.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Taja Bell. Owner of Taja B boutique and Salon. Been in business about 10 years. I’ve always had a love for hair and fashion. As a little girl I would draw fashion designs and do the neighborhood kids hair . I’ve always been a go getter and I’ve never let “No” stop me. When I set my mind to it , I get it done. The past year I’ve decided to do hair less and focus more on the boutique. We have the latest styles and we will soon offer a custom clothing line. We want to be the go to place for fashion. We want our clients to not just shop with us but experience us. We want our fashion brand to be what we do and what we’re known for. We plan to be an international brand eventually.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe what helped build my business is my knowledge and honesty .My clients come to me because they trust me and they share that experience with others and in return those people come for that experience.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Last year a week before Christmas I was admitted into the hospital. When Working for your self any time off work can be scary not to mention not really knowing or understanding why I was in the hospital in the first place . I ended up being in the hospital 5 days. On the 5th day the Doctor diagnosed me with a condition that would be life altering. I knew I had to make changes . I ended up cutting back on my hours at the salon and had to redo everything! I’m still dealing with the changes but it all helped me put things into perspective when it comes to life and business. This has been the driving force to really focus on the boutique so that I can have more time for self care .
