We recently connected with Taj Cowan and have shared our conversation below.
Taj, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I feel like it’s okay to ask your loved ones to support you. It’s appropriate to ask them to check out your work, your ventures. I’d say that if they act like they’re not interested, then don’t force them; that’s not appropriate.
I wouldn’t say “interesting”, but I form my opinion based on life experiences and that of others. I have very few supportive friends and little to no family. The people that support me, I’m grateful for. Honestly, you get more support putting yourself out there for strangers, rather than people you know.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into writing as a kid. The first thing I wrote about was motorcycle racing, and I was in the third grade. I published my first and so far, only fully length sports fiction novel in 2014, titled ‘the Welter War.’ I started that book in 2011, when conversations about boxing vs mixed martial arts were all the rage.
I became a book editor in 2013, editing for indie author Drako, author of the Dragon Hunters and Coven series. I’m currently his main editor, and I enjoy every second of it. I became an editor because I’ve read books in serious need of an extra pair of eyes, no disrespect at all. Just saying. I enjoy my work, and I take pride in it. If other authors seek me out, I want them to know that I will take as much pride in their work as they have!
I started my podcast, Titan Up, in 2021. I realized that I needed to release most of the things I hold in and speak my piece. I talk about whatever comes to mind and when I need to express myself. And later in 2025, I’ll be debuting as an audiobook narrator. I won’t talk too much about what I’m working on, just that it’s a romance fantasy.
As far as about myself, I grew up raised by my mother’s mother, and all I’m going to say about that is that my childhood is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone that’s autistic like me. I wouldn’t wish my relatives on anyone. I’m proud of how far I’ve come along in life, despite my many setbacks in recent years.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a podcaster is the freedom to express myself the best way I can. For the longest time, I felt like my voice was held back due to the emotional, verbal and psychological abuse my family heaped on me. My podcast reminds me that I am free from that abuse and can freely express myself when the occasion arises.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As a writer, my goal is to share the stories that run through my mind with the world. As a podcaster, I want to be able to share my thoughts, in my voice.
