Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taiwo Akande. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Taiwo, thanks for joining us today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. ther times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
I am a hardworking and dedicated person who gives my all, no matter how tired I am. My manager always calls me in whenever there’s a call-out at work, and I never hesitate to help. However, when opportunities for growth arise, my director and manager continuously pass me over, giving promotions to others—even those I have trained. Despite being overlooked, they always remember me when they need extra hands because I struggle to say no when someone needs my help.
At a certain point in my life, I went through challenges that made me reflect on my journey. My husband left me and our three children—Faith, Grace, and Glory—for another woman. It was a painful and difficult time, but instead of letting it break me, I chose to rise above it.
I decided to invest in myself. I have always loved fashion, especially African dresses, and people often admired my outfits and asked me to get them similar pieces. That inspired me to turn my passion into a business. I poured all my energy—the same energy that was undervalued at my workplace—into building something of my own. That’s how FGG Fashion (fggfashion.com) was born, a business I registered in Texas and now run with my children.
Ironically, after hearing of my success, my husband returned home after a year and a half. At the same time, my workplace, where I was once overlooked, could no longer demand my time as they used to. The same people who barely acknowledged my dedication once called me “Double Engine” because of my relentless work ethic.
Looking back, I thank God for everything I went through. If I hadn’t faced those challenges, I wouldn’t have discovered my true strength or built something that truly belongs to me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Taiwo Akande, and I am a wife, mother of three wonderful children—Faith, Grace, and Glory—and the proud owner of FGG Fashion Company.
Fashion has always been a passion of mine. I love wearing elegant African designs, and over time, I noticed how often people admired my outfits and asked where they could get similar pieces. This inspired me to turn my love for fashion into a business that celebrates culture, confidence, and individuality.
The name FGG Fashion holds deep meaning—it represents the initials of my children, who are my greatest motivation. They remind me every day to pursue my dreams with faith, grace, and glory, and that’s the same confidence I want to inspire in my customers through our designs.
At FGG Fashion, we offer high-quality, stylish African fashion pieces that make people feel bold, beautiful, and connected to their heritage. Our mission is to provide unique designs that help individuals express themselves with elegance and pride.
What sets FGG Fashion apart is the passion and purpose behind it. This brand was born from love, resilience, and a desire to create something meaningful—not just for myself, but for others who appreciate the beauty of African fashion.
I am most proud of the journey that led me here and the opportunity to share my designs with the world. My goal is to continue growing FGG Fashion into a brand that empowers people to embrace their style with confidence.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely! My creative journey is deeply rooted in celebrating African heritage through fashion. Every February, during African History Month, the Black African community at Bethany Baptist Church, where I have been a member for years, comes together in beautiful African attire. Each time I wore my African outfits, people admired them and asked where they could get similar pieces. This inspired me to start designing and creating unique African dresses in various styles.
At FGG Fashion, my mission is to help people embrace their culture with elegance and pride. I want everyone to experience the beauty, vibrancy, and confidence that comes with wearing African fashion.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Starting FGG Fashion was challenging, but I was determined to make it work. In the beginning, I used my credit card to purchase products and invested in creating a website to establish my online presence. I also designed business cards and distributed them everywhere I went, from local stores to community events.
One of the key moments in expanding my reach was attending District 18’s election campaign, where I actively shared my business cards and connected with new people. This helped increase awareness of my brand. Additionally, I began participating in vendor events to showcase my handcrafted designs, which allowed me to meet customers face-to-face and share the story behind FGG Fashion.
Through persistence, networking, and showcasing my work in the right spaces, I have been able to grow my clientele and build a brand that reflects my passion for African fashion.

I give all adoration to God that gave me inspiration and also my kids that stood by me through thick and thin of my journey. As well as my family, Aboderin’s sons and daughters; my brothers, my sisters for standing by me, their words of encouragement their assistance for the success of my business, and a sister like friend that paid for my website Opemipo AJAPE without them all there won’t be FGG FASHION COMPANY .
