We were lucky to catch up with Taire Jai recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taire, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best boss, mentor, or leader you’ve ever worked with.
My best boss was at a Clinique counter, which was my first job in the beauty industry. She would make me color match every single client, and do a lot of the makeovers. That taught me work with different skin tones, and skin types. My boss doing that is one of the reasons why I’m able to have a more diverse clientele.
Taire, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from Michigan, and I’ve been living in Texas for a few years. My love for makeup came naturally. When I was a kid my mom gave me one of those play makeup kits, so that’s where I got my start. I’m most passionate about enhancing my client’s natural beauty and making them feel their best for their events and photoshoots. My favorite part about being a Makeup Artist is seeing my client’s reaction when they look in the mirror after I finish their makeup.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic I took more of a virtual approach to my services. I started hosting masterclasses for one of the top beauty brands, and did virtual one-on-one makeup lessons for clients. The pivot was very beneficial because it gave me the ability to also service my clients who are out of state.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I went through a period of not wanting to be active on social media. But I realized it’s a great way to connect with people that aren’t in your area, also I’ve been able to find a lot of online resources for my business through social media. It can be very beneficial for you personally and your business.
