Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tailin Hall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tailin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?

My husband has been a supporter, motivator, and critic, I could ask for. There were days where I truly undervalued myself and he help me to see the VALUE in my work and that I’m WORTHY of every penny that I charge! He is one of the reasons I am where I am today! My parents have always been behind me as supporters with every crazy idea I come up with lol. My mom has been the most supportive person. When I think about giving up, she gives me reasons to push on or when I’m stressed, she finds a way out for me, I can call her at 2 am and ask her if she can come help wash these vases or iron some tablecloths and with no questions asked, she will be there. My mom is the glue that holds me and this company together. There are no words that I can formulate to express my gratitude for the time and hard worker she has devoted to me and E.D.T. I Love You To Life Mom! My Dad has also played an important part in who and where I am today, he has put in many hours of sweat and back-breaking work to see that I succeed in this business. Troy and Tyler (my brothers) have also devoted hours of free labor in the beginning to help the business get of the ground ( they receive payment for hours worked now lol)

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I fell into event designing and decorating by accident. In the process of planning my own wedding I became frustrated and perturbed by the extreme cost of wedding decorations and thought” I could do this myself” SO I DID. Shortly after my friends and family started to ask me to plan and decorate their events and that was when I discovered that I love to take things or spaces that’s ordinary or what some might call ugly and turn them into something extraordinary!

I LOVE PEOPLE! Growing up I was always taught to notice the little guy, be kind to the kid in school that may get bullied or teased. I have unbelievably low prices for my line of work because I genuinely want EVERYONE no matter their budget to be able to experience the beauty this world has to offer! As mentioned previously I love to take things that are plain or unappealing and turn them into something beautiful. So, when I go venue shopping with my clients, they may see a plain ordinary room, but I see the potential in the space what it could be and I see how Exquisite Designs by Tai (pronounced Tie) can transform this space into something that will be truly remarkable!

I’m known for my creativity in Planning and Designing events. I offer a full line of event decor and planning services! What sets me apart from others? I get in trouble for saying this, but I don’t do this for financial gain although that is a perk, but I genuinely love making people happy and guiding them through what some may consider to be one of the most stressful times of their life. The facial expressions, the shocked looked, the jaw-dropping that I receive after my clients see how I have transformed a space brings me great joy and hall and THAT IS WHY I DO WHAT I DO!

I’m most proud of the fact that I DID THIS. I took an idea from a piece of paper and brought it to fruition. Many hours of blood, sweat, and tears, glue gun burns have paid off, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people along my journey because I decide to start this business. I want your readers to know that each person no matter what your status is in life will be treated with the utmost dignity and respect no matter how you may treat me lol. Once you have experienced what Exquisite Designs by Tai has to offer as my grandpapa use to say “IT ALL STOPS HERE NO NEED TO LOOK ANY FURTHER!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

One day I was decorating an event and I meet a lady by the name of Mrs. V Scott she was the caterer for the event. She saw I had the desire and motivation to be an event designer. So, literally two days after the event she gifted me with thousands of dollars in supplies gifted as in FREE I mean two full truckloads of just vases, flowers, linens in every color, etc. everything I needed to start! Not only did she help me materially but for years and currently she has guided me thru obstacles and has been the best mentor I could as for and by the way may I add an awesome cook! I also work a 9-5 full time job, So every pay check I would receive I would go and buy vases,lines, etc to the point where I had 4 large storage units! My husband has also been a major financial asset to my company. He has invested in me and in my company so much to the point where I started another business called Dynamic Drapery of Detroit! Because of my Industriousness I currently have my own Event Venue Space, Office building and numerous storage units.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

I have found that the Bible not only gives me spiritual guidance but it’s principles gives practical advice for every day living that I abide by. For instance, being industrious, making sure I have fair and honest contracts, and most importantly treating others how I want to be treated. Those have been the foundation of my company and because I stick to those principles I have gained the trust of many.
