We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taijiro Arakawa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Taijiro, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents were always strict with me.
If I lied about anything and break my promise to my parents , they got mad at me.
But, they are really patient and nurtured me with love.
They made me realize what is the right thing to do as a human.
And they believed me that you could do it.
They are really good parents for me.
So I became really humble and kind.lol
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Even those who have never been interested in boxing before will get into it.
My client tell me your lesson is really fun and easy to understand.
Because,I can create a practice menu that suits each person and teach them carefully, one by one.
And I think it’s because of the game elements.
Boxing is considered a high hurdle and needs to be lowered.
I try to make it enjoyable for you.
I am very happy that everyone is enjoying boxing.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think it’s creative skills.
If my fighter is struggling, I have to come up with a solution.
If I want to make my clients fun, what would I do?
I always think about this things.
This may be true for any profession, but I think this is a very important skill.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before I came to New York, I needed to change my job.
I used to work as an actor in Japan.
But I was skeptical about whether I wanted to do it.
My thinking was very rigid that is not good for acting job.
Then I thought If I go to United States , my mind might be able to change.
And I came to New York.
My mind changed and I could find what I want to do.
And then, I started teaching boxing in New York.
It’s my best job right now.
