Taija, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I have never been asked this question, but I think it’s important that we all take time out of our lives to actually think about this. While I do offer creative services, such as brand management, website creation, etc. what I envision my legacy will be is deeper than what can be seen. I hope that my everyday life in uplifting the Black community, pouring into Black businesses, and supporting them as well is what my legacy is based upon. Growing in an abundance of love, wealth, prosperity, and wholesomeness. I hope that I can continue to be an example of that.

Taija, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m so bad at formal introductions, but my name is Taija Dawn! I’m a millennial mom, brand manager, virtual assistant, and content creator. A Philadelphia native, but residing in Dallas, TX. I kind of accidentally, stumbled into my career. I began my journey as a local blogger in Philadelphia, PA (my hometown), this connected me with so many up and coming moguls in my city. Not too long after, I became the “dot connector” and opened many doors for others around me and it got me interested in being a publicist.
Once I became a publicist, I just knew I found my calling! During that time, I built up my clientele and had very satisfied clients, a lot of them still use some of my services today. While creating my Instagram business page, I created all of my content and it caught the eye of my clients as well as my followers. I started out doing Instagram posts. and then it began to grow from there, before I knew it I had more clients looking for content creation than public relations services. Content creation was a talent that I didn’t know I had until I was forced to do it for myself. It was like I finally tapped into a gift that truly made me happy. Ever since then, I’ve grown my service list by combining my administrative experience and creative aesthetic. I literally went through these different journeys to end up right here where I belong, the owner of Taija Dawn, LLC!
What I can definitely say has been consistent with how I conduct business is that I am a problem solver. Whether my clients booked me for public relations services or brand management, they have all come to me with a pain-point and I’ve done all that I can to relieve them from it. Some have come to me with struggles of managing their Instagram, building a website, branding their businesses, or just need general advice. When it’s all said and done, I want them to be able to rely on me to assist in what they need.
I often get the question, “What do you do?” and I’m going to be honest, I do too much (haha)! Let’s go down the list: brand management, virtual assistance, content creation, website creation, and social media management. I know that was a mouthful! As much as I try to narrow down the services I provide, I love being that go-to person for my clients. I’ve grown sisterhoods and friendships with the women I’ve been blessed to work with and the trust me with (almost) every aspect of their businesses!

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m sure if you look up “pivot” in the dictionary my photo will pop up (haha)! I’ve literally jumped from being a blogger to publicist to content creator to now the multi-hyphenated Black woman. If I had to do it all over again I would. I believe that each of those experiences have built my character, shown me the ins and outs of different industries, and taught me lessons that I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else.
I remember vividly when I decided I was going to leave my career as a publicist behind and go full throttle as a content creator. That was probably one of the hardest decisions to make, not only because of my clients, but because of my own fear. I was afraid that people would think I didn’t know what I was doing and that I didn’t have any direction. My fear was so crippling that it took me almost an entire year to even announce that I officially started taking clients for services outside of public relations. Once I finally got tired of holding myself back, it was up!
The process of pivoting is never easy, but it’s necessary if that’s what it takes for you to grow. I adopted this mindset and realized that you can’t grow from a place of comfort. I couldn’t continue concerning myself with the thoughts of others (that was in my imagination anyway). I wouldn’t be where I am now if I continued to operate from a place of fear.
