Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tai Mason. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tai, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe it takes hard work, dedication and a mindset that will get you there. Our thoughts are the first thing we should govern. Believing you can get there is the key.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Tai Mason, I’m from Tulsa, Ok and I’m a makeup and lash artist! I got into the beauty industry because of my mom. She is a makeup artist and she introduced me to the craft. I remember going to a wedding with her to assist her with clients. I had her brushes ready, palettes sanitized and ready to go. I helped her pack her things up when it was time to leave etc.. once we left, she paid me! I was so shocked but immediately knew, this was what I wanted to do. She began to teach me the art of makeup and blending. She bought me my first pieces of MAC makeup. It was a lipstick and an eyeshadow palette. I was thrilled and began to try new things even on myself. Throughout high school, I played in makeup often. Shortly after my college days, I began taking clients. I went to school for fashion marketing and design, but gravitated towards makeup. I still love designing and still have a passion for fashion but, makeup has my heart as well. The more I did makeup, the more i loved it. I began branching out from the typical glam and started doing SFX makeup. Working with prosthetics (skin, designing wounds, painting etc..) and trying to find my way in the industry. I’ve built a successful clientele through my work over the years and I’m proud to say I run a wonderful business via my passion. I believe my eagerness to grow and continue to learn is what sets me apart. I’m not a one look kind of makeup artist. As I grow in my business and passion, I’m learning that I like the things that stand out. I like the SFX makeup more than the glam. I’m hoping to move into the movie industry very, VERY soon.
I will never stop learning and never stop growing. Anything that has to do with makeup, you’ll find me somewhere very close. I’m branching out and changing my style everyday.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience, in today’s climate can be frustrating.
The only way I am able to continually build my audience and clientele is consistency. I got to a point where I was posting everyday, no matter what it was. If it’s a different angle of a look I have already posted the day before or even a video, I make sure to post something to keep my audience engaged and wanting more.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that my willingness to learn new techniques and teach my clients about their skin and how to actually apply makeup is what helped build my reputation. Every time someone books with me, I hear “I’ve heard you’re amazing and you teach us while you’re applying, how to apply” almost every time I have a client. I care about my clients and want them to really learn.
