We were lucky to catch up with Tahnaiya Russell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tahnaiya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Allowing me to express my artistic creativity and not judge me for it.
Tahnaiya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I design all my album covers. I use photoshop but for my latest album TEE NEE YA, I decided I wanted it to have a 3D model. So I had to take extra time in learning two 3D modeling softwares ZBrush and Maya. This was a learning curve for me as I had never used any 3D modeling software before. This caused a delay in the release of my album especially since I decided to do it half way through the making of my album. It became quite frustrating at times and I almost wanted to give up and go back to Photoshop but I had to keep pushing. I’m glad I got through it as I am very happy with the end result.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Not really but I do wish Youtube and all those tutorials were around back in the days.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
It’s as simple as sharing/reposting and buying their art and/or music.
