Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tae Henry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tae , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

It all started when I was in the grade school honestly. I’ve always had a passion for writing poetry and that’s where I’ve learned to turn that into music writing. It was a way for me to express myself and just feel free without no regret. It was something that was always embedded in me I think lol

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Well for the new folks lol, my name is Tae Henry born Deontae Henry. Im actually the youngest of 5 siblings.. Hmm I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. Growing up, I naturally took to music and singing whether it was in the church choir, or in the shower. I always knew that singing was my dream and something I had a passion for. As a jit, i was inspired by some of the GOATS (Usher, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Luther Vandross, Chris Brown, and Tank). So, I always had a passion for writin poems and raps just for fun and end up developing that into my writing skills as a songwriter. I think I have maybe about 50 songs written thus far and just keeping them in the vault for now lol. Plus i knew I wanted to be an artist at a young age I just had to focus and get disciplined.

A lot of people don’t understand how hard it is to be an independent artist. You really have to have tough skin and be finically in a good place because at the end of the day you don’t have a team…it’s just YOU. So I do believe that’s one of the most things I am proud of is me being consistent and staying dedicated to my craft and another main thing im proud of is releasing my first album “Evolution of Tae”, it was me just finally being free and letting creativity just overflow my mind. I wanted every song to be different and just have its own vibe. I think me and my producer Alex prolly put well over 100 hours into that’s album. It’s my masterpiece but also my first born!

Everyone always asks me what sets me aside from other peeps… I think my crazy personality. Im just this goofy, energetic,funny loving person. lol I love a good time and just good energy. Anybody who knows me know I say what I mean and that’s another thing. But yeah that’s just some of the main events to get y’all up to base with who Tae is lol.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

I think me moving to Florida honestly. I knew once I did that nothing could hold me back from what I want to do in life. I legit came here with a dream and a failed relationship. It was either give up or go hard. Of course I wasn’t driving 24 hours back to Chicago. I prayed and God answered. So crazy how I went from not knowing what I was going to do and homeless to where I am now. I remember being at work when I worked at Comcast and I met a dope girl named Shana (whom is one of my closes friends now) and she just felt my energy. Im a very spiritual person and I felt like that was God saying I got you don’t give up. She let me crash with her for about a month until I got on my feet. Shana aint know me from a can of paint but saved my life. Here I am now 7 years later, 15 songs out, living one of the best dreams I couldve ever imagined. I feel like THAT DAY is what made me focus and get on my grind.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Whew I think one of the most rewarding aspects is the lives you change in the process. You really don’t know what someone may be going through. Ive had a few handful of people tell me how proud they are and im an inspiration to them. Rather it was me releasing my album and I motivated someone to go after their dreams, or me writing and singing about something personal that someone else can relate to. It just makes me feel good to have all these people that look up to me and support my dreams, that’s a reward within its self…. That’s something money can’t buy.
