We were lucky to catch up with Tacara Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tacara, appreciate you joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I can honestly say that I am delighted as a business owner. I have worked several 9 to 5s, and I felt so incomplete with each one of those jobs. We are all put here for a particular purpose. Not realizing the value of what I had to offer the community suppressed my true meaning. Think about it; you’re getting up to go and work for someone, just to make them wealthy and successful. Meanwhile, you’re barely getting by, and they could care less so as long as you make them and their company looks good. Always make your dreams come true before you spend a lifetime bringing someone else’s to life.
Tacara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was introduced to the industry in 2014. My first publishing home was owned by the late and legendary KS Oliver (Ebonee Abby). She signed me to her company, where I was also the Company’s First Lady. With that title came a lot of work. I oversaw and made sure the other authors were on their jobs when it came to completing their manuscripts. I also helped choose authors who would be potentially signed to the company. As for Ghostwriting, my first publisher also had a hand in that. You see, she came to me one day and asked if I would write something for a friend of hers. I was nervous at first, but she knew the level of my talent and gift for writing. She could have chosen anyone else, but she chose me for that significant project. Everything took off from there. Bossettee Behavior Llc is a Ghostwriting and literary consulting agency. It is my company, while Bosssette Behavior Presents is the independent publishing company I legally own. We offer ghostwriting, branding, marketing, and consultant services at a reasonable and affordable price. I offer payment plans and pay-as-you-go plans for my community because I know we are in the middle of cruises. I have helped so many new authors branch out into the industry. My clients go on to be bestselling authors such as myself.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Many people think starting a business is as easy as tying your shoes. Well, allow me to debunk that theory. When starting a business, you first need self-funding or a third-party investment. At the same time, it is tough to come by business funding these days; invest in yourself! You will reap the beautiful benefits in the end. I had solely eight thousand dollars to my name, and I chose to divide that up and start three small businesses. I purchased equipment and promotional items, hired professional promoters because word of mouth goes a long way, and paid for sponsored ads on my social media platforms. Now you don’t need thousands of dollars to fund your business, but you need to have the willpower to invest in yourself.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When you are making your dreams come true, you may have the desire to take those you consider your friends with you. I tell you that everyone is not meant to go to the next level with you. Everyone and everything in our lives has its season. I learned that the more I elevate, the more those around me would reveal their true colors. I have lost so many people I considered more or so family than friends because they couldn’t handle my success and growth mindset. They would never clap for my wins, never share my business posts but dared to say I do not include them. At that point, I walked away for the sake of my peace and worth. Because I would see them supporting others who were doing the same career-wise, they had a personal vendetta against me and my success.
