Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tabria Price. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tabria, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind Mahogany Hair Care is simple. The purpose of me creating my own Hair care products was because I felt that it was impossible to find a product on the market for ME. Meaning something i felt good about not only purchasing but using on my natural hair. Growing up as an African American young lady and being told your hair isn’t society’s “normal” was a task in itself .. My Goal with my hair care line was to remove that task for young ladies to come, I want them to be able to love their natural tresses no matter what society says “normal” is.

Tabria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into hair care products because of my love for 3 things; Entrepreneurship, Hair, and independence.. Entrepreneurship and Independence go hand and hand for me, the idea of being my own boss and owning my own company has always lit a fire inside of me. My love and passion for hair is something that I’ve battled with since a young child, and I know you probably asked yourself “why did she use battle?” Well it’s because I have honestly always been afraid to actually pursue a career as a hairstylist, nervous about not being good enough, people not liking my work, not being able to build clientele , and a lot of other silly reasons. One day I simply decided to get out of my own way and do what makes me happy, and I taught myself to think that no matter what happens everybody who I am meant to touch and reach, I will.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being able to start a business and run a business during a pandemic is literally the definition of resilience. I feel like it was so many obstacles in my way to the point where I just wanted to give up but I knew I couldn’t. Me starting this journey was bigger than just ME. Feeling down and defeated about sales not going the way I wanted them, crying my eyes out staring at my inventory just sitting, and then picking myself up saying “ok let’s figure this thing out and keep going”

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Thinking that everyone was supposed to support me just because it was me. I had this terrible idea that all of my family and friends would automatically support my business ventures when in reality it was strangers who supported me the most and the quickest, at full price might I add. That’s a lesson I had to unlearn as well, just because you’re my family doesn’t mean I have to give you a discount or my services free. I love you but this is my way of living
