Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tabitha Frazier. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tabitha , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I wanted a certain type of necklace for an event and could not find exactly what I was looking for at the time. So, I found the elements I wanted, ordered them, and taught myself how to assemble a necklace. It was so fun and fulfilling to me that I ended up making several of them, and my friends actually wanted to buy them from me! My designs at that time used all vintage elements, so they were very unique and all one-of-a-kind. I had never found myself to be particularly “crafty” or “artsy,” but designs just began “coming” to me on a regular basis, and I could not seem to stop them! At a stressful time in my life, designing these exclusive pieces became a form of therapy and joy for me. It was a hobby only for a few months, and after a short time, I realized that it was actually becoming a viable business and was worth developing and pursuing full-time!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Idlewild Everyday focuses on creating a handcrafted jewelry wardrobe made from high-quality, hypoallergenic, water and tarnish resistant elements. Most of our designs use mixed metals or are offered in both gold and silver toned metals to maximize versatility and simplicity in everyday wardrobes. Because we have kept the majority of our manufacturing in-house, we are able to provide a high level of quality control, creating pieces that stand up to daily wear and celebrate women of all ages.
Beauty is not just about aesthetics; it’s about the emotion and meaning behind it. We believe that every piece of jewelry tells a story of love, hope, happiness, or strength. Our goal is create pieces that speak to your soul, inspire and uplift you, and celebrate your unique style.
At Idlewild, empowerment is not just a catchphrase; it’s a way of life. At our core, we believe that each of us holds the power to achieve our dreams, no matter our age, background, or circumstances. Have you ever had to pivot?
For me, pivot has been the name of the game since last fall! I actually rebranded last summer to a demi-fine only jewelry line (which we still offer as well). However, with changes in the market over the past few months, I decided to begin working with steel-based elements, as they offer a lower price point and more design freedom just simply because of their natural properties. It seems to have been a great pivot, because our steel line is now our best-selling product line of the year so far!
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
This is likely a small risk, but it is a fun one to share! We had our first wholesale vendor market where we were serving as our own reps, this past spring. I had learned in some self-training marketing classes to make sure to “stand out” at our booth to create a memorable experience. I managed to convince my team to join me in wearing large gold woodland goddess headband sunray crowns (that marry with our logo) every day while we worked our booth. We had SO much fun with that, and ended up being known as the “crazy crown ladies.” So many new customers said they had to stop by to see what we were all about simply because we were wearing those large headbands!
We found that it disarmed people and made for quick and easy conversations, and also lots of laughs!
