Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ta-Wanda Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ta-Wanda , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I was 10 when I saw my grandmother pass away in the hospital of lung cancer with the doctor standing around her watching and telling my family that there was nothing more they could do for her. I was devastated! She was only 52 years old. Crying hysterically they had me leave the room as I was put into the hallway to stand I ran into a nearby bathroom and crying and angry that we were in a place that was suppose to help people and this doctor saying he could not help. I vowed that I would never let that happen to anyone else, and I would never trust the hospitals or doctors to take care of me. Remember, I was only 10 years old.
As years went by my anger faded. Prior to my grandmother passing on, I had been in reading medical journal and the dictionary as a way to help myself read better, I wanted to get out of a special reading class they had me in. I was not a fan of being one of the 5-7 students being pulled out of my regular class in front of everyone to be taken to another room to help improve my reading skills. This had been going on for years and i was sick of it. The medical journal and dictionary was my way to stop the embarrassment if I could practice more and teach myself to be a better reader I could get out that class.
Not realizing the amount of information I was learning from the series of medical encyclopedias I started seeing and hearing things in my family, community and from doctors when going to appointments and check ups, that did not make sense to me. Like how all the elders in the community had issues with blood pressure and diabetes which at that time they would say things like I have to take my pressure pills or my sugar pills. My family had issues with high blood pressure, diabetes, brain tumors, and lung cancer. Many years later fibroids, colon cancer and edema came along.
Now I have to tell you a little bit about my family. My family was not obsessed in fact my grandmother was a size 6-8, my uncle small man with a little belly and my mom who pasted away at 54 with lung cancer was a size 3-4 all of her adult life.
No exercised regularly, but my mom could swing a baseball bat like a pro, knocking it almost out the park. We ate canned veggie most of the time, except when they cooked collards, mustard greens ( which are cooked for HOURS to make them so soft they almost melted in your mouth) southern food. This cooks most if not all the nutrients out of them.
We ate lots of processed foods like ramen noodle, cereal, cookies, pasta, rice, frozen pot pies, and tv dinners that was the thing in the 70’s and 80’s. Red sausage links, chitterlings, steak umms, white bread and homemade jams with lots of sugar in it.
We did have pear and peach trees at my grandmother’s house, which is what they made jam out of. For the most part we ate a Stand American Diet. Okay now that you have that bit of information back to the story.
I made it to high school with all of this knowledge in my back pocket, never thinking I would use it and frankly had forgotten all about it, because it didn’t help me get out of those classes, not even in middle school. A friend of mine and I decided to take beef and pork out of our diet and I started eating different, this was around the time I noticed that my favorite great uncle seemed to be dealing with diabetes. When I told him what I thought he told me I did know what I was talking about. Regardless I told him what he should do… (exercise, takeout sugar, no fried foods and drink more water.) He did not listen.
I went off to college, in my year, I decided to become vegetarian. I was looking at many facts and knew I had to do something different if I didn’t want to suffer from the same issues my family were battling. I began to continue researching and learning and transitioned into a holistic lifestyle. I started to raise my children vegetarian and holistically, we used chiropractic to help boost their immune system, along with supplements, physical activity and physical fitness, no medication, acupuncture, lyphatic massage and whole foods. My family thought I was crazy. My mother would joke because my children never drank from baby bottles.and would not even let you feed them meat and trust she tried. My son was one year old and would not let them put it in his mouth.
Several years later my great uncle passed out in his yard and was rushed to the hospital and told he had diabetes. He would tell me all the things the doctor told him to do and he was doing it all. I said that’s what I told you to do 5 or 6 years ago along with some other stuff of course. He said to me, “yeah but he’s a doctor and he has been to school for this and you’re just my great niece”.
The risk right? Here it is…
I had to be the leader, to show my family and community that we didn’t have to have all of the health issues, that not only my family was experiencing but many other family’s as well. No one was telling them exactly what they could do to take back their health. All those years that they were going to the doctor and getting a good bill of health or hearing we will keep an eye on it, (until it gets to a point of surgery or medication).
If someone had just told my grandmother, great uncle and mother that they could change some things in there day to day lives, they could have not only improved their health but extend out their lives. 52 and 54 is young.
These issues were not hereditary they were lifestyle. Which is why they are called chonic lifestyle disease.
We were living and passing down poor habits and poor health.
I took was going against everthing I knew to be true growing up.
No one in my family had ever breast feed and I was told my child would not have enough milk. I would not use formula nor the infant cereal and was told the baby will be hungry and not sleep through the night if you don’t feed them this baby cereal formula.
No one in my family had gone with out eating meat. I was told my child would die without having meat.
I did not vaccinate any of my 3 children. I was told they would not be safe.
I was told the. chiropractor was going to paralyze my child and that acupuncture don’t work.
I was told my kids would needed to have floride toothpaste and floride treatments and would be a bad idea to avoid them.
I was told I was risking my life and my children’s lives.
My lifestyle had to shift so that my kids and other family memeber could see that we could change our outcome. I have a small family and we were dying way to young.
I didn’t realize all that I was doing and going through first hand would lead me to writing a book, working with thousands of people in the world and shifting the way generation to come would live life.
In my career working with 5 holistic doctors they saw in me something I had not noticed. I was told I live the lifestyle and just work in it. That was probably the first time I realized that I didn’t gain my knowledge from just studying and applying theories I experienced a lot of it. I didn’t change my lifestyle because I had a health issue, which is what most people do. I changed it to preserve my family’s life and legacy and it has help me help other families. I guess I am working on that promise that I made to my young self in that hospital.
My child are now 30, 28, 24 and are still vegetarian and living holistic lifestyle and have given me the best compliment a mother could get. Help us raise our kids the way tou raised us. You can rotate staying with each of us in 3 month increments so you can teach your grandkids.
I have been told it is rare to have all of my children stick to the untraditional lifestyle they were raised in. Yup, It was a risk worth taking. My sister is also vegan vegetarian and lives a holistic lifestyle.

Ta-Wanda , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I had a little side hustle where I would help people out natural ways to improve their lifestyle. One day, I was asked to help a doctor out because he was short-handed. I was going to help until they hired someone. I started helping them with the front desk and therapies.
Little did I know that would lead me to working with them and eventually 4 other holistic health practitioners for over 20 years. During this 20 years span each of the doctors saw something in me and would pour into me, putting me through either some form sort of certification courses to expand my knowledge base, teach me some of their skilled trades or place me in personal development programs such as Landmark Educaton specific master group and masterminds.
This expanded the knowledge I had on the body and its interconnectedness.
I started realizing that there were 2 major problems. We don’t know what true health is, and no one has shown us how to truly be healthy, nor told us what true health is. We only know what to do where we get sick. I also realized there was so much misinformation and miseducation running around that people didn’t know what to do or where to start. When I would ask people if they were healthy, they would, ‘say yes.) Even if they had medical issues or were on blood pressure medication.
I also came face to face with what prevented people from improving their health, which was the mindset, habits, and actions. These were areas that were untapped by doctors, whether due to lack of knowledge or lack of time.
With that knowledge, I created the 8 Essential Lifestyle Functions (8ELF’s)
A few years later, I created the Road To Wellness Program. A 1:1 program were I introduce professional men and women to the 8 Essential Lifestyle Functions and show them exactly how to use them to rebuild, repair, and recover their health naturally, so they don’t have to be on medication for the rest of their lives.
I created the Lose Weight The Healthy Way Program, which explains how weight gain is a symptom of a bigger issues and how losing weight doesn’t make you healthy, but getting healthy can help you lose weight.that weight.
We also provide clients with
Initial consultations, Functional Health Reports, and Interactive Workshops.
A great way to learn about the 8 Essential Lifestyle Functions and positive action steps you can take is the the book I wrote called Breaking My Family’s Poor Health Chain.
What are you most proud of, and what are the main things you want potential clients/ followers /fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
I am most proud that all of my children want to raise their children the way they were raised. I recall a conversation where they were making plans to have me travel and stay with each of them for 3 months at a time to help them when they have their kids. For the record, that will not be happening when they have kids, but it was good to hear!!
I also love hearing stories from my clients that have family members who start to make lifestyle changes because they see their success, I have seen it travel through 2 generation with some clients!!
I want people to know that you are either building health or you are building disease. You actually have to choose to be healthy and then take the positive action steps you need to take to get there.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Living a holistic lifestyle and having done the work allows me to forewarn them on possible pitfall that could derail them. This I believe allow for their success long-term.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would absolutely choose the same profession again. It’s tough to explain the feeling I get from seeing a persons life improve drastically. This happening from our program and the consistent choices and decisions they’ve made over time. Seeing someone who had little to no hope and hearing them say that their doctor said “they are healthier now than they were before they had cancer” is remarkable! Knowing that I had a hand in helping them receive news like that is priceless.
