We were lucky to catch up with T Hayes recently and have shared our conversation below.
T, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Coming up with Mommies Melodies was very easy to me. Motherhood is such a universal language no matter where you come from, how much money you make, your education background or the lifestyle you live if you are a mother we all can relate. Creating this safe space for women to be more than mommies was very important to me once I realized I wasn’t the only one feeling lost in my title as a mom. Women have been having babies since the beginning of time and will continue to do so, so there will always be a safe space needed for moms to just be free, to be supported, to be celebrated and loved for more than just being a mom.
T, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The inspiration for Mommies Melodies comes from my life experiences. I have three beautiful children that have given me great blessings as well as great education on the support that mommies need. My children have been the seeds for big ideas – inspiring the development of multiple businesses, personal growth, and aha! moments.
Mommies Melodies strives to empower mothers to reach their highest potential. Mommies Melodies strives to empower women with inspirational programs that support women, no matter their circumstances.
Mommies Melodies is passionate about educating mothers to balance discipline and love and womanhood and motherhood. Mommies Melodies provides a safe space for moms to be more than just moms! We like to put our focus on the woman inside of each mommy because let’s be honest, you can’t be the best mommy without first being the best woman! We provide resources, education, support, doula services, good times, and lasting relationships.
Our goal is a happy mommy and a healthy woman!
I’m most proud of now offering doula services, this has been a dream come true. All mommies deserve a happy birth experience and being able to provide that to the community is very special to me.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that I had to unlearn is not to focus on numbers but to focus on impact. Many times I have focused on the number of attendees or the profit when in actuality none of that matters. What matters is the impact, so if 5 people or 50 people show up we still have to give them our best. I remember very early on we did an event and only like 3 people rsvp’d so I cancelled it, I ended up getting a call from a mom almost in tears telling me how much she needed it and was looking forward to it, and that’s when I realized how important what I was doing was and that focusing on numbers wasn’t the key here, the key was the space I was creating for these moms however many it may be really meant.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I am a huge reader always have been, but with life who has the time right, a really good friend sent me a copy of 50 cents book Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter I knew I didn’t have time to read it so my audible obsession began and that book changed my mind sight not only on business but on life! The gems in the book made me want to go harder, it’s true motivation on every page I encourage everybody to read it or listen to it.
