We were lucky to catch up with T-Chronic recently and have shared our conversation below.
T-Chronic , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned the art of Hip-Hop emceeing by absorbing the knowledge of the culture, constantly practicing to develop my flow, and thoroughly taking notes from the artists that have always inspired me such as Eminem, KRS-One, Wax and many more. When it comes to my initial learning process when I first stepped into the music world, compared to my where I’m at now, my natural strategies of creating remain very similar. For example, I still sporadically scribble lyrics on random pieces of paper or even napkins then put it all together like a puzzle. Other times, the lyrics just all flow out at once. However the difference nowadays is I have better breath control on stage, I can record songs quicker, and my lyrical skill has vastly improved. That all derived from experience and practice overtime. The harmony of patience, determination and open mindedness are key traits in evolving your craft and reaching your goals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Travis Cronan. My stage name is “T-Chronic.” I found my love for creative writing when I discovered a rhyme book in my eighth grade teacher’s classroom. The overwhelming passion struck instantaneously and I brought the book home that night and began writing lyrics. The infinite combinations of compound syllable rhyme schemes, metaphors, double entendres, and every aspect of lyricism is beyond fascinating. I soon was introduced to the world of Hip-Hop by my friend Alex when he showed me the song “Moment Of Truth” by Gangstarr. The depth and message of that song is pure and has so many lines in it that speak volume. I was instantly inspired and it furthermore ignited the fire inside of me to create music of my own. The more I studied the craft, the more I developed my style. Now at the age of 25, I have five projects out on all music platforms, several music videos and I am constantly playing shows. I aim to send a message of spiritual awareness through my psychedelic style, lyricism and abstract sound. The message in the music means so much to me. Music is a universal language that connects us all and is a powerful tool to bring unity and positive change to this planet. The core meaning I would like for the listener to receive is how we are connected, a part of a bigger picture, and do your best to not live in fear. One of the most accomplishing feelings is when I get done writing a new verse. From writing bits and pieces on different papers, to seeing it all puzzled together, neatly organized on one page is very rewarding!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In March of 2020 I set off on my first tour titled the “Love Life Tour.” About halfway through the tour, while in Idaho, I received emails from every remaining venues informing me that the rest of the shows are cancelled due to the pandemic. This was very upsetting news. I had spent nearly a year booking all of these shows and organizing the events.
Just like that, tour was over.
In September of 2021, I began my “Infinite Blessings Tour.” My first show of the route was in Yuma, Arizona. On the way to the show, my van that I just had recently purchased broke down. The transmission needed to be replaced and I simply did not have the money in my budget to do so. Therefore, this tour came to a halt as well.
Now, with more motivation than ever, I am hitting the road in August to embark on my “Perseverance Tour.” I am taking precautionary steps to ensure this tour runs as smoothly as possible and will be prepared for any bumps in the road that may arise.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Aside from creating new music in general, one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is the impact you have on your audience and listeners. Creating a new song and recording it is a priceless feeling. However, to share that art and message with a crowd is so powerful. When I feel that exchange of energy, it’s affirmation of my purpose in this life. When someone tells me that my music or performance gave them chills, that is the ultimate complement and reward as an artist.
