Syvanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

I am very happy being a business owner. The thought of having a “regular job” does cross my mind, but the advantages I have building my business from the ground up while also being able to be a mom and not miss out on important milestones and events is something I wouldn’t want to give up. As with every business owner especially one who is also a mother, you seem to get wrapped into the “mom guilt” thoughts. You wonder all the time if you’ve made the right decision, if you’re dedicating the amount of love and time to both your family and work etc , sometimes it can take a toll on your mental health if you don’t have a routine or support system established. In the beginning much of those thoughts consumed me but once I got to a point where I was in a position to expand and get reps it’s helped out tremendously. They are just as much apart of my business if not a lot of my support I could ever ask for. I often get asked, “How do you handle it all? How do you do it? “ and I jokingly respond with “ I have no choice” and in all seriousness I’ve told myself that because I’m blessed to have come this far I refuse to give up on something many working moms with “regular jobs” wish they had. I also say regular jobs with quotations because to some it may not be viewed as a real job but if you’ve never done it don’t judge because running a business and being a mom is equivalent to about 2 jobs but they are so much more rewarding , blessed is an understatement 😊

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Sylee & Co. is a Children’s Clothing Boutique. While we do offer adult items and accessories, it was founded and built off the concept of it being a children’s clothing store hence the name. Many call me Sy and my daughter’s name is Novalee and that’s where our name came from. I wanted to created quality clothing for my daughter with designs I couldn’t be able to find in department stores. We use a sublimation process when creating clothing. Sublimation is a digital printing technique that uses heat and pressure to transfer a design onto a material, such as fabric, paper, or plastic and what makes this so unique is that designs will not fade, crack, peel, or fade so you get the most out of your money. Something else that sets Sylee & Co. apart from other businesses is that a majority of, if not all of our designs either designs that are made by us or created from other mama run small businesses. We are very proud to be able to support other moms as much as we can. 😊

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

I sell through my Shopify Website as well as Etsy and TikTok Shop. My Shopify Website has been my platform of choice as it was the most cost effective for me and it was easy to create the storefront to my liking. I ship orders throughout the United States so Shopify was also my choice when it came to shipping costs. On Etsy I mainly sell my smaller items and my digital goods and we recently joined TikTok Shop to see if it would
be something that would work with our goals and its taken off quite successfully very quickly. With TikTok Shop I’ve only put out adult items as it’s been a great tool to show potential customers that we also offer adult items so I’m excited to see where that goes in the future.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

Being honest and having integrity in your work and processes is the best advice I can give for managing a team and maintaining high morale. Your team and customers are looking at you to lead and deliver and it’s important that they feel secure in what you’re putting out and or asking of them as this will create positive experiences for all. As for my team, I always make it known to them how grateful I am for them whether that be through my incentive programs, freebies, or even just me telling them , I support them back just as much as they do me. 💖
