We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Symone Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Symone below.
Symone , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I have had the opportunity to work on has been documenting and writing about my Grief journey since my mother passed away in June 2022. This specific body of work has allowed me to sit and pour out emotions (as one does within the practice of journaling) to convey the profound truth that while we feel heavy emotions that can sometimes be overwhelming and frustrating, the Word of God is the truth in which we should live our lives. Being able to share intimate details about my current journey of missing my mother and pursing to grow into the person God has created me to be, allows for my words to shine a light onto others who are going through a similar experience, not only as a Christian believer also as a human being. Through writing I have been gifted a newfound freedom of expression for the deep and beautiful things lined within my heart and this specific literary piece has continued to help me write the many beautiful stories for children, to inspire, encourage and ignite their young hearts for Jesus Christ and remind them that when you tackle the hard things of today, you are able to conquer the great things of tomorrow.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a first-generation author, poetry enthusiast, and lover of midday naps.
Finder of new coffee shops and restaurants, reading God’s word daily, cooking for others brings me happiness. Since the passing of my mother in June 2022, I discovered my calling in Children’s Literature. It was a profound moment when I felt God opening my heart to craft beautiful stories about God, Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit is the mission of the ministry God gifted me called WhenGodWrites.
Within this ministry God has charged me with the task of writing and releasing twelve Christian children’s books that beautifully display and discuss the topics of God’s Omnipresence, The love of God, The Armor of God, the Holy Spirit, Praise Dancing & Worship, Being the Salt & the Light in the earth, Prayer, The Character of Jesus Christ, Our Identity in God, Overcoming fear with God’s word and Our authority in Jesus Christ. Through each carefully crafted literary adventure, I aim to instill in readers a sense of value, embrace, and inspiration in embracing their true selves as intended by God.
The Kingdom Kids Readers Club, led by me, introduces children to inspiring stories promoting reading and Christian values. Through interactive experiences, I aim to ignite faith and curiosity in young minds, celebrating the transformative power of Christian storytelling. My Author Visits combine faith with storytelling in a safe, welcoming environment, fostering a passion for reading and deeper understanding of Christian principles.
Writing impactful, safe, and educational Christian children’s stories, inspired by the Holy Spirit, has been an incredible blessing bestowed upon me by God. I firmly believe that in these times, more than ever, God is answering prayers for our loved ones to know Jesus Christ and for prodigal sons and daughters to return to Him. My deepest desire is to witness every child, every parent drawing closer through the sharing of scripture, with Jesus Christ at the core. I am committed to empowering every reader to embrace God’s love, grace, mercy, and the Holy Spirit. With dedication, I intend to share these wonderful stories with children and families worldwide, one book at a time.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, the goal that drives my creative journey is to introduce every child to the absolute beauty of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Bringing African American main characters and families to the forefront within the Christian children literary space. Highlighting the wonderful faith journey within Multiethnic households and communities showcasing positive family dynamics that shatter the current socio economical constructs the world has forced on past and present generations. Representation matters,
not just in social class, education, finances, but also with the Body of Christ. Our identity is not found in a dying world but in a Living God.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative, is being able to authentically share stories and characters that speak to the child within me. As I have written manuscript after manuscript, each is a reflection of the words I desired to know as a child. The heart of a child is the most tender soil and the stories I create are seeds that are being planted. The life of a creative can be healing or destructive and in knowing this truth, I hold the responsibility to inspire young minds with the highest honor.
